I’m happy to be added – I’ve just read this whole post and am happy for my images to be used.

    Hi Jo

The reason I’m doing it like this is to add a lot more specificity in my descriptions and in that SEO metadata line. Many of my images also go to Shutterstock and the like and there are limits to the description – 200 characters. In the Symbio site I can bold certain words and give a fuller description where helpful. I’m hoping that will help in the Google rankings.

Thanks all – it did appear to be that highly technical way of running PHP on your own server. I’ll write the migration up when I get a chance.

At the minute my site may be busy – I’m processing many images in parallel and that is undoubtedly slowing it down.

It should all be back to normal now. Just for those who are thinking of moving to a separate server, the answer was to run php as follows:

“By setting PHP to run as mod_suphp, every PHP process will be executed by the user whose home directory it’s in. So instead of running the PHP scripts as user ‘nobody’, it will run them as user backyard which will eliminate issues like this. “

I’m not sure that all the ISPs around the world will have updated their DNS records, so some people may still see the old site.

Well, they fixed it – something about cmoding to 755…

I need to ask Bluehost (or someone here) this question so that the new hosts can properly set up PHP: How is PHP is configured on this server? Is it set to DSO, suphp, fastcgi, or rUID?

Can I come back on this CPU Throttling. I am still getting this each morning from about 6am Eastern Time for 4 hours or so. Almost a full hour of throttling each hour. As a result, my page load performance is terrible – now up to about 10 seconds after I have been working on adding new images.

Am I the only one on Bluehost with CPU throttling, in which case I can look for the reason my site is different. At the moment I have the daily update of image files turned off.

I’m seriously looking at moving to a VPS hosting package as I am finding it really hard to add new images the way it is performing.

Great – thanks. I have set the cache to 0 and will see what happens next!

Incidentally, I thought that the Run Daily Image Update was perhaps causing my throttling. I’ve just turned that to Off. What does that function do?

I too find the Bluehost basic plan very variable in terms of speed – especially in the admin side. I measure the speed with occasional page load requests from Pingdom – it averages out at 6 seconds, then went down to 2-3 for a week, now it is back at 10 seconds. Perhaps because I have been uploaded a lot of images. However, 6 seconds is a lot for a buyer to wait for – I’m sure people will give up after an image or two.

I’ve looked at alternatives – there is the Pro plan for $19.99 a month, then the various VPS solutions for $25 – 50 a month.

Anyone moved up to the Pro? If you did, did you see an improvement in the site performance.

I still get heavy CPU throttling each morning on Bluehost – lasts for about 5 hours and then goes.

The fix turned out to be removing Leo as an admin. My user profile was OK, but for some reason the system was picking up Leo’s admin account for that link.

    Fixed.

Yes, great images indeed! I’ve just added you to my list of networks. I may be able to fill some gaps in your offerings of landmarks with my USA images.

Sorry to have started this – to change the font on a particular page in Chrome you use Ctrl + to increase and Ctrl – to decrease. I must have pressed that combination by mistake in all my editing of descriptions etc.!

    All sorted!

I’ve updated as well – Washington DC.

I’m getting fed up of Hawaii (I go every January to a conference…) but I guess I could be persuaded!

    One thing I noticed in the “Info” on an image page. If you click that, you see how many images etc. but it says “Contact Leo” instead of “Contact Steve”. It links to my About Page, but Leo seems to be everywhere in this project! (-;

I was just going to suggest Caterpillar on my site – I only have 5 images for that keyword, but it seems to show OK on my site with a normal search, but if I type the search directly into the URL: http://www.backyardstockphotos.com/search-images/caterpillar/

Then I get the grey box. So it must be something to do with that specific page.

I tried the same thing with the word “washington” instead of Caterpillar – that works fine, because there are multiple pages of results.

Interesting – yes, I do see the issue with those keywords!

I tried a few more from my tag cloud (Lincoln is not present in that), and they are all OK.

What made you choose Lincoln? I wonder if there is something there?
