This was an easy fix. I downloaded the functions.php file from wp-content/themes/symbiostock-express/ and added the code to the end of the file. I can’t paste the code in here but if you go to this website:
http://www.remicorson.com/woocommerce-hide-checkout-fields-for-virtual-products/
and then find the comment from BFTrick dated January 3, 2015, he includes code that checks to see if the cart needs to know shipping details, and if it doesn’t need that, it hides requirement for address and phone number – a neat solution.
One learning lesson – there is nowhere that tells the buyer what is going to happen when they return from paypal. It would be nice to add some text here to explain the process. I hijacked the Paypal description in WooCommerce to add some brief explanation of the way they can download the file. A suggestion for the next release would be to allow us to customize some words on that checkout page if that is possible.
You can check out what it looks like at http://www.BackyardStockPhotos.net

July 28, 2015 at 11:54 am #23649Thanks Robin, for looking into it. I normally do see who buys my images from the legacy site, but you see this in the Paypal email that is generated, not by the person entering information into my site. I fully agree about the legal contractual side, but then I have this worry that people have a fear of their personal information going adrift and giving it to an unknown site like mine could be seen as pretty risky behavior. Giving it to Paypal is a trusted route.
I don’t want to make a big thing of it, especially as there seems to be a plugin solution, but do you think the theme solution would also make sense? Adding it to the Express theme does not seem to be very difficult as far as I can understand things.

July 28, 2015 at 6:44 am #23644I found this suggested piece of code that would be added to the function.php of the theme, which in my case is the Express theme. Would it be possible to add this and give us the ability to turn off the request for the address and phone number in the checkout page?

July 26, 2015 at 11:00 pm #23631I came up with a bit of a workaround. I uploaded my png into the same folder: Symbiostock/Assets as the default watermark. Then renamed the default one to a new name, renamed my png to ss_watermark.png and then selected “reset watermark” in settings. That did the trick.

July 26, 2015 at 10:06 pm #23630No – none of the various PNGs I have made will load. My site is now running with Imagick (that option is checked as being OK), so I don’t understand what I am doing wrong. One of the files is the PNG that I used to use in the legacy system

July 26, 2015 at 2:38 am #23622Ahh… I understand now. In the legacy system you directly edit the Importer/Exporter Plugin itself and paste the secret code into that plugin. Now it is connecting.
Steve
July 26, 2015 at 1:27 am #23621I have downloaded the importer and installed it as a plugin on my new site and in the legacy site. In the new site I can see the setting area in Symbiostock and can see the unique code that I am supposed to copy across to the legacy site.
However, in the legacy site I can’t see where the importer settings are. I see the plugin is active, I have looked in Symbiostock:Settings as well as the other tabs, I have restarted the theme to see if that makes it appear.
Sorry – but where are the settings for the exporter in the legacy system?
SteveDecember 6, 2014 at 3:02 pm #11488Great to see you back, Leo.
My site is still working fine, and I get visitors, but it is a good few months since I last got a sale unfortunately. I’m very interested in the new theme when it is available – I certainly haven’t given up on trying to maintain and sell images from my own site.

June 20, 2014 at 2:05 am #11386An update to this saga.
I came across an issue with emails on another site of mine and during testing, I realized that I was sending the contacts to an email address of mine that was then being forwarded on to another email address. For whatever reason (still not sure what), this approach was not working. My intermediate host was rejecting the emails. Once I changed the destination email to my own Gmail address, Contact form started to work again for me.
So, problem solved.

All I need now is a sale to trigger my dashboard update!

June 12, 2014 at 6:55 pm #11410Hi Leo
I went to my admin page but didn’t see a new update for the theme. Is the zip file sufficiently robust to put on a live site?

June 10, 2014 at 4:51 pm #11385Thanks for asking! I took the easy way out and removed it, just leaving my email address (not searchable as an email address) in place. So if anyone wants to contact me, they can just send me an email.
I tried deactivating and then reactivating, but that didn’t seem to make a difference.
I’ll look into Jetpack – I do have it installed

June 1, 2014 at 11:13 pm #11374I don’t know how fast it is supposed to auto tweet, but nothing has happened for me after 2 hours
Steve
June 1, 2014 at 8:27 pm #11372It was an auto-retweet? I thought Leo was watching each one and sending out the ones he liked!!
I’ve just sent out a tweet with #symbiostock so I will see what happens.

May 21, 2014 at 3:48 pm #11304Good post – I had noticed that, and I had been moving in the opposite direction – making my unique images (that are only on my site plus Alamy and Corbis) priced up to $40 rather than $20. Haven’t sold one of those, but it is a relatively new change for me.
It would be great if we could work out a way of reaching a conclusion on whether price does make a difference, but I can’t think how to do that – all we have is anecdotal stuff!
