I’m finding the whole Symbiostock networking thing very confusing lately.
We’re supposed to network with the people we want, but other sites can show up because they have promoted keywords (I’m not sure what those are). So we really have no control over what actually shows up on our own site.
We’re supposed to have a limit of 10 connections, but some people have 13 or 14 sites showing up…sometimes.
January 30, 2014 at 9:55 pm #9029I don’t understand it at all. 😯
January 30, 2014 at 9:35 pm #9010It’s supposed to only show the sites you’ve linked to, but like you I sometimes get results from more than 10 sites and some sites I haven’t linked to. I’m not sure why. Sorry…
January 30, 2014 at 9:11 pm #8895I’ve gotten one sale so far. That customer found me through my Facebook page. Google has gotten me some traffic, but no sales so far.
You have to look at what the big players are doing.
1. SEO, of course.
2. Paid advertising. In magazines, online, banner ads, Google, Twitter, Facebook, etc. Marketing departments that work on that stuff every day.
3. Sales forces in cities all over the world. Actual human beings who call and nurture relationships with big buyers of stock images.
4. Blogs. Interesting information that’s helpful to buyers.
5. Big PR firms to write and place articles about them all over the media.
They’re not going to throw money and effort away on all that stuff if it doesn’t being them returns. And I mean $$$$$.
Just sayin’.
January 30, 2014 at 8:16 pm #9022I don’t spend time on their sites either, but I liked their Facebook pages when I started ours so I could get an idea of what they were doing. And I just started following them on twitter. It’s an eye-opener.
I wholeheartedly agree with you. And you’ve been very successful, so I’m definitely paying attention to your opinions!
January 30, 2014 at 7:07 pm #9020I agree that this needs to happen. However, the big microstock agencies *do* offer this. Shutterstock has a blog that offers helpful tips and current trends along with marketing. They and iStock offer lots of helpful stuff and post it on Facebook and twitter as well as on their sites. They also either require or encourage their employees to “like” posts. Check out any of the Fb posts from iS or SS and see who likes the posts. At least for iStock, it’s their employees.
Now that I’ve started blogging a bit, I plan to continue. I have a bunch of ideas in mind. I hope others will join us in this effort.

January 30, 2014 at 3:46 pm #8803Weird! I tried that search on your site and results come up from 14 different places, even though the limit is 10. Very strange. I had the same thing on my site…results from 13 sites on some searches.
January 30, 2014 at 3:33 pm #8801I’ve found that if I have a lot of results for a search term, no other sites show up. For example, if I search for “cartoon” on my site, I only see results from me. But if I search for “occupation,” there are results from others. I’m not sure what the cutoff amount is, but there must be one built in somewhere.
January 30, 2014 at 3:28 pm #8776I’ve added three examples of sites with slideshows I like.

Thanks all, and especially to Leo, Jo Ann and Martha for all the work and support. And thanks to the people who helped out with info and donations for the Facebook page. But if only three or four of us like and comment, it’s fruitless. Facebook reduces the number of people who see the posts without community involvement.
Instead of growing, the page is shrinking. And I’m spending a lot of time and effort reaching Martha, Jo Ann and myself. 🙂
I figured most contributors would be sharing the posts on Facebook… Of course it will be fruitless without everyone trying to spread the word. I did spam my entire friends list to “like” the symbio page last week though. lol
ah…so that explains why the page suddenly got several likes. Thanks for that.

In your WordPress dashboard, click “Symbiostock.” There you can simply add the URLS of the sites you want by clicking the “+” and typing the URL into the box.
– Thanks Shelma, silly me, I though it was to input just my site address. :0). So, I think this is the place I can add up to 10 exchange links. By adding the exchanged links here, what does it do? Where are these 10 links going to show up?
– What is the difference in the Marketing tab where I can check the checkbox promote for other sites? By checking it what is going to happen with the sites I’ve checked as “promote”? where is it going to show up? If I check one it will make mine show on that person’s site too?@shelma1 wrote:

Is there some thread/link for asking to exchange links?
Thanks in advance.
The exchanged links show up at the bottom of the page when someone searches for an image on your site. Try searching for “landscape” on my site, and under my search results you’ll see results from sites I’ve linked to.
I’m not sure about the marketing tab, honestly. I’m sure Leo knows.
January 30, 2014 at 12:15 am #8931What a great idea! Today I started downloading my watermarked images and then re-uploading them into my media file to create a link, but your idea is much easier. 🙂

January 29, 2014 at 3:54 pm #8904OK, after some sleep I got up this morning and realized my copy needed a lot of work (I’m a copywriter, after all).
I’m here for SEO now:
My new copy gives you the green light for SEO, includes helpful info for buyers and also promotes your Facebook page, Twitter feed and similar images. (I also give folks the option to purchase my images at the micro sites….way down at the bottom.) Note that I repeat the image title a few times in the copy.
I’ve created a Word doc and copy and paste from that. I’ve put NAME OF FILE into my copy so it’s easy for me to see where to cut/copy/paste in the image title.
