When I search for flag on my site, 3 partners show up, and a fourth one I dont know, never saw before and have not linked in my slots. When I click on this person’s thumbnail, I am taken the image site, and bitdefender is blocking the site. http://ayzekstock.com/ Has their been a hack and is someone adding themselves to the network without being listed in the network slots?
Ayzekstock looks like a legitimate Symbiostock site. The reason they are showing up in your search is because they have the keyword “flag” as one of their promoted keywords (they have about 237 images with flags in them). You can see someone’s promoted keywords by going to their Symbiocard. You can see their Symbiocard here: http://ayzekstock.com/symbiocard.xml. If you search for “symbiostock_my_promoted_keywords”, you will see their promoted keywords.
I’m not sure why bitdefender is complaining.

After you add 10 people to your slots, do a search on your site for something that most people might have, like christmas. It drops 10 (maybe a couple less) scrolling bars of images under your results. That movement will likely distract the buyer from even looking at your images. I have no problem helping others if i cant offer anything, but i am not happy with the way those results are displayed.
I agree and would like to either see (a) two sets of results – one result set from my website and a second result set (under mine) from all other websites or (b) one set of results with my results showing first and then everyone else’s following.

I could be wrong but I think just displaying the images via the Symbiostock.info search doesn’t give SEO weight to any of the sites other than Symbiostock.info. You’re offering a gateway but not really creating a link by calling up the other sites.
I believe that the images that show up via a Symbiostock.info search will also have their SEO increased because the image thumbnails are actually coming from the individual websites.

I hate to say it but it looks to me like the whole back linking (and the Symbiostock networking idea) has become a lot less powerful or even less meaningful after Google changed its mind about how results get listed.
Incoming traffic on my site has barely anything to do with back links anymore.
I’m not sure what stats you are looking at, but I have taken an extensive look at the web stats for my website and the only thing that has really changed is that Google (text) Searches have taken a dive since mid-September. I don’t get many back links, but they have been relatively steady.
October 11, 2013 at 5:50 pm #1727I have no idea if this will help, but you can try and remove all of the cookies for your website from your browser and see if that helps.
October 11, 2013 at 2:05 pm #4375I don’t have any images of students in class, but I do have some science-related images:

Even if you can’t use any of my images, thanks for trying to support Symbiostock.

If you add a Symbiostock site directly to your network, it will help their SEO (Search Engine Optimization) on the search engines. While it doesn’t seem to make sense to help “competitors”, the converse is also true – if they add your website directly to their network, then the SEO for your website will increase. That is why this is called Symbiostock – it is a symbiotic relationship between all of the sites.
And if anyone finds this post useful, please add my website to your network!
I understand all of that.
What no one wants to explain is why it is any different whether you add every single person in the network by adding the sy.info link, which now gives me and everyone else who has that as a choice in their network links to 115 people, or if you add 10 people in the slots and only have links to 10. From an seo standpoint, doesnt all of us just linking to sy.info give us more juice? When someone explains why filling all those slots makes more sense, i will consider going back to filling all.
Here is an example:
Say a website has only added Symbiostock.info to their network. When Google searches that website for keywords (flower, food, etc), then the search results will show images from the main website, and images from Symbiostock.info in the network. For example, say Google is searching that website for “flower”. It will show images from that website, and then around 24 images from Symbiostock.info. What do you think the odds are that your images will show up in those 24? Probably pretty low (since there are about 117 Symbiostock web sites and around 6,790 flower images). Those 24 images that show up in the results from Symbiostock.info will then be “indexed” by Google and the websites that own those images will have their SEO increased.
But if a website adds other sites to their network (besides Symbiostock.info), then when Google searches for “flower”, those websites will always show up in the results (as long as they have images with that keyword) and their SEO will be increased.
So the bottom line is this – adding other sites helps those websites increase their SEO.

I have noticed a few people on the network dont have all slots filled. Why isnt everyone filling them?
I believe that it is because of what I stated above – It goes against common sense to help our “competition”. But if we don’t help the “competition”, then what are the odds that they will help us?

Done! You can see them here: http://thpstockphotos.com 🙂
THP, I just looked at your site. Very nice!
Since I’m turning my attention now to the Register/Login process, I looked at your window for that. Really like how it’s laid out.
Could you tell me if you’ve got a plugin for that and what it is?
Thanks in advance for your help!
Martha: I believe that new login window is in the new 2.7.x release.

If you link to symbiostock.info you will be linked to everyone. They will show your images in searches on their site and vice versa. And most everyone is linked to symbiostock.info already. I have verified the fact that i am linked with everyone with webmaster tools after wondering what the point was for filling out 10 slots if you can connect in one shot. Of course you can fill them out, maybe they provide additional links? I would like to hear the theory on that.

October 10, 2013 at 12:41 pm #4168I would also recommend that those who report errors should add the version of the plugin, symbiostock, WordPress, and PHP.

When I try to go to that URL, I get the following message:

I’m on Symbiostock 2.65.
October 9, 2013 at 12:45 pm #4121I like it.

Thats why I mentioned I dont use the ranking system.
Yes, but then you said:

which gave the impression that there was a fix for the issue.
I would like to find out what the actual issue is and fix it. I would rather not use a workaround and change the sort order to the date.

That doesn’t fix the issue. That just changes the sort order to the date. I know that some people like sorting by date, but I would rather sort by rank (without the issue of having images show up multiple times).

Your probably fine. I’m going to put up a thread at WordPress. But generally it seems this method of ordering images by rank is not being properly handled by wordpress itself. I’m going to double check, but it seems to bother a lot of people. I’ll get back on this one.
If you can, post a link to the thread and I will try to follow it and do some investigation myself.
