I think that I would like to see just one result set (for both my images and everyone else’s). This would be just like the major agencies. My images would be displayed first of course, followed by everyone else’s.
Anyone have any thoughts on that?
November 15, 2013 at 2:53 pm #7627The artwork is superb, but they are offering larger sizes than most Symbio sites at lower prices.
Hopefully there isn’t going to be a race to the bottom on Symbio sites as well.

I had a chat with bluehost support yesterday about this problem which is also painful for me. What they gave me was this:

To be honest: I don’t know which conclusions I should draw from this. Anyone who can see what the problem is?
That page says that it takes (on average) 9.2 seconds to load your home page. That is a long, long time.
It also says that your home page is 2.61 MB. You should try to trim that down a bit.
For comparison, using the same tool, my website takes 3.86 seconds to load (which is still kind of slow) and is 1.66 MB. So my website is 36% smaller and is 238% faster. So in general, it does seem that your web host is slow.
In addition, if you click on the Timeline tab, you will get a breakdown of everything that is loaded. Three things stick out for me. First is that your slideshow images are quite large (in physical size). Second is that it looks like the WordFence plugin is taking a long time (about 4 seconds). Third is that the social media plugin seems to be taking a long time (about 2 seconds).

Ok, so I created a test account, and upon registration and logging in, I’m seeing like wordpress backend stuff – jetpack, dashboard, profile, etc. Is that normal?
Unfortunately, that is the default for a WordPress theme. I thought that would confuse the customer, so I made some code changes so that they would be brought to the homepage upon login. It isn’t optimal, but at least it won’t confuse the customer (IMO).

I bought an image and paypal works, but I didn’t get a link of where to get it. Where’s my download area? Am I missing a link or option somewhere?
You should be able to see your purchases when you click on your username (in the upper-right hand side of the page).

Thanks for taking the time out of your life to do this.
I thought that the following image would be appropriate for the upcoming season:
November 9, 2013 at 3:24 pm #7222I think it is a good idea and would definitely be interested.
I would suggest doing (multiple) images of the week. For example, maybe five images per week (one from each website).
There are currently 132 sites. If you only did one image per week, then it would take almost three years for each website to rotate through. And by then there will probably be a LOT more sites. At five images per week, it would take about a half year to rotate through the current number of sites.
Another suggestion would be to have people submit their birthdate (just the month and day – no year needed). Then everyone that has a birthday during that week would get to submit an image. This way it is kind of a birthday gift for the owner of the website.

Wouldn’t a drop box account work for distribution of the source code?
Not really. For open-source development, you need the ability to create a branch off of the code base so that you can add your changes. Once the branch is completed, it could then be tested by others. If people like the changes, the branch could then be merged with the code base as a new version.
November 1, 2013 at 3:15 pm #6640I could be wrong, but if I remember correctly, there was a bug in the display of thumbnails when the rank was used as the sort order. Basically, the same thumbnail would show up multiple times on different pages.
So the fix was to change the sort order to date.
I believe that this change might have been added to one of the new versions.

right now symbiostock is open source only in that the source code is freely available
what we lack is any way for non-leo’s to add features, etc
+1
I think that one of the first things that is needed is to get the source code somewhere so that it can be branched / versioned by various people and worked on.
I joined GitHub a few months ago and tried to add a fix (to get my feet wet), but it was either ignored or I wasn’t following the proper process. But since then, AFAIK, the source code hasn’t been kept up to date in GitHub properly and many many versions have come and gone.
October 29, 2013 at 7:50 pm #6481Or go to the symbiostock_rf (or wp-content/uploads/symbiostock_rf_content) directory on your web host and look for it there.
October 29, 2013 at 7:47 pm #6476I also like it a lot. But I’m a sucker for cute animals.

what it doesn’t track are keywords that no site has, but there are over 5000 unique keywords presently
But that is my point. I believe that it is very useful to know if customers are searching for a keyword that I might have mistakenly forgot to enter on an image. There have been many times when I have forgotten to put a very basic keyword on an image. It would be nice to know if someone is searching for that keyword.
In addition, if a specific keyword is showing up over and over again, then it might give an artist the idea to go create images for that keyword. For example, I don’t have any images of squid, but if I start to see hundreds of searches for the keyword squid, then I might want to go create images for that keyword.

actually, this announcement makes the sym network even MORE powerful & useful. we’re already tracking this sort of data…
Yes, but I believe that only lists keywords that are used by the artist to describe the image.
IMO, it would be better to track what the customer is actually searching on.
