Hey Ezeepic – I am right now working on the Importer as there are a bunch of improvements I am implementing to it. I will post an update when it is ready for use again. I am glad you got Imagick installed and working on your server – I’ll show you how to import and help you with it once I get this done. It may not be tonight.
May 12, 2015 at 2:06 am #23083Hi Ezeepics – please see this thread:
http://www.symbiostock.org/forums/topic/imagick-php-extension-error/
Basically, Imagick cannot be installed by you unless you run your own server. You will have to email and ask your web-host to install it for you as it is a required component of the new Symbiostock.
Unfortunately, Symbiostock cannot work without it.
May 11, 2015 at 2:44 pm #23074Based on my workload, I think the forum will suffice for quite some time and will likely not be ported to an entirely new system.
As for Imagick, Symbiostock is made to be cutting edge in every single manner, and this necessitates forcing some systems to change. I can help anyone with issues regarding it to the extent I can, but other than offering one of the cheapest WordPress hosting solutions available for people in your situation, there is not much else I can do.

Some others are hitting this roadblock as well:
http://www.symbiostock.org/forums/topic/imagick-php-extension-error/
Unfortunately, there is no viable workaround to this. Imagick is an integral part of Symbiostock and provides a far larger scope of features than the base GD would. I’m recommending everyone contact their web-host to install it or consider moving their media store to a host that does. This is also one of the reasons we created the PLUS hosting service in the case that some members were not able to set up Symbiostock on their current solution.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
May 10, 2015 at 12:43 am #23051Hi Nando,
Here is some information I should share so you understand why a choice was made to go with Imagick.
Supported formats:
Imagick (over 100)
http://www.imagemagick.org/script/formats.phpGD (5)
http://php.net/manual/en/function.imagetypes.phpMost pertinently, GD has no support for vectors. This means all our illustrator and vector artist peers would not be able to use Symbiostock if I used GD.
Here is another article that explains that Imagick is faster at processing larger images, and the output quality is superior:
http://old.webasyst.net/support/help/gd-vs-imagick.html
To rework the plugin to only work with GD would involve a lot of coding. Unfortunately, I just don’t have the resources to do this. I think the best option for anyone who does not have access to Imagick on their current server would be to rent a low cost shared space with a host that does support it, or if you have a lot of websites, consider a dedicated server where you can install Imagick yourself.
If I can help in any other way, let me know.

1) You have woocommerce installed and activated
2) You have symbiostock installed and activated. You should see the little birdy in the left corner. If you don’t see that, let me know and we’ll work on getting it installed right. If you do, then you can use the guide above to get started quickly.
May 9, 2015 at 10:34 pm #23040Hey Ezee.
Okay, have you disabled the old theme first for testing purposes? You can’t really run both at the same time (at least I haven’t tested it but I’m fairly certain you will get unexpected results).
Can you follow this guide:
http://www.symbiostock.org/docs/2015/05/01/3-minute-guide-to-launching-your-store/
And then come back here with further questions? It explains how to quickly get accustomed to the workflow.
May 9, 2015 at 10:32 pm #23039Hey Henri – I can’t find any information on OVH shared hosting and how they deal with special requests. I suggest you email them to see if they can install the imagick PHP extension for you.
If they aren’t able to help you, you can alternatively stay with your legacy install for the time being, or if you really want to use the new version, you can move to another host or use our PLUS hosting service.
Unfortunately, building the plugin with GD support would almost be like creating two different plugins, as you wouldn’t be able to process a myriad of different image types, the least of which are vectors.
May 9, 2015 at 10:24 pm #23038Hey there Henri – I will look into your server config to see if OVH supports installing extensions on your behalf.
As it is, the new Symbiostock required Imagick for all image processing: http://www.symbiostock.org/docs/2015/05/01/installing-symbiostock/
This is because the built in processor, GD, does not process many image types (no TIFF, for example) and is also inferior in rendering colors.
