Jo, can you tell us if an image-enlargement feature (or whatever it’s properly called) is now included in 2.7.7?
How about the ability to place widgets in a wider variety of places on the site?
You mentioned the page view counter, but I didn’t understand if it’s in 2.7.7 now or not.
Those are the main features in SYXtra that I’m currently using with 2.6.5 and would like to keep. I’d love to know if they’re in 2.7.7 or not.
Thanks for the intel!
Ok… been testing a little for you. It’s still on my page but moving stuff around now that it appears to be fixed.
“Big Dynamic HOVER Image Previews” works but only over SYXtra widgets. I assume that has always been that way. I never switched it on to encourage faster page loads but it is working with version 2.7.7
The links I reported not working (on galleries and a guest also emailed me to tell me) because they were missing the last “/” now seem to be populating properly. I’m going to put it back onto my page hehe.
What else? Let me see…
Since I never got the Plugin to work properly with the lastest version I didn’t really see it much in action. With the new version you can place 3 columns just above your footer where the copyright and Symbiostock credits.
You can have a side bar with stuff on it like on my site. I think that is the current extent of layout. I speak under correction as I am very new to all this and I’d rather not get spanked 😀
I think the page views like on the images comes from the plugins. At least there is this under the SYXtra section… Small Features >Show image View Counters.
Hope this helps a little! I will be switching off the hover previews as it irritates me LOL! For now they are still switched on

October 12, 2013 at 6:00 pm #4426I’m rather new here but I built my site with the new beta version. What this means is that I only briefly used the current stable version.
Now what does all this mean? What should you do? I have some suggestions…
If you have a new site to set up, use the new beta version. Other than a few bugs, this is going to be the “Stable” new version soon. There is no point in wasting time using the old version (as you will see why in a few sentences time!)
If you have a functioning site with the older non beta version of Symbiostock then I HIGHLY recommend that you set up a test site! The new Symbiostock is a move forward and it has many great changes. Unfortunately it seems like a lot of plugins need to be update to keep pace with the new version.
Some plugins will get updated and some won’t. That is just the nature of things. So basically I see it this way, we can’t keep Symbiostock from getting better just so some plugins continue to work. The choice to not upgrade is there of course but you are really just buying time. At some point there will be need to upgrade but it’s not pressing currently. If WordPress makes some changes then at that time you may have no choice but to upgrade along with it.
So set up a test site and begin customising the test site until you can get everything set up in a way you are happy. Then just simply transfer the settings of your test site to your functioning site once you are ready. Some people are already doing this.
The SYXtra plugin is largely broken. I have it installed but I am really only making very minimal use of it. I tweak some of the fonts not yet fully implemented with the Symbiostock beta, SLAM (although I don’t know much about it) and page view counter. The rest just seems rather problematic and some things are NOT useable AT ALL! Some things like galleries and such have broken links now and do not link back to your image pages properly.
Good news is that some of the things you can do with the SYXtra plugin you can already do within the theme itself.

I would also like to have the ability of a cart without needing a user, but the issue seem to be that the cart is tied to a user. So you can’t have a cart at this point without a customer registering / logging in.
I think it is this way so that you can track transactions. If person X says he/she paid for something and never received it then the transaction was anonymous and it makes it more difficult to see if someone has a valid claim or just taking chances.
I am also in two minds about it. It’s great because people just come and go and you don’t have to bother with registrations but in reality all the agencies require that you register. So I suspect that it’s one of those necessary evils 🙂

October 12, 2013 at 3:52 pm #4410Recreating the licence is not difficult and if you only have one type of licence installed so far you can apply it to all your images in bulk under Symbiostock > Batch Editor.
I had to do this myself but I have only uploaded just under 250 images at the moment and they are all of one licence type.
A tip you can use is if you don’t have thousands of files yet you can type in * (the asterix) into the search window, set the number to more than the files you have uploaded, and then apply your new licence to them under the top option called “Settings & Prices”.
If you have MANY images it will probably not be a good way to go about it. On 250 images it worked just fine and I did it a few times as I needed to change things 🙂 If you have many images already uploaded then go by category perhaps.
Just be patient and wait for all the image thumbmails to load. Once they have loaded click that O right next to the search button to select ALL your loaded images.

October 12, 2013 at 3:35 pm #4281I think the logical progression would be you select your various options and then the button says add to your cart. When you click on it, it adds your selection and options to the cart. As a consumer that is what I would expect to happen. It doesn’t need to be a popup confirmation just that it ONLY gets added to the cart once you click on the big button below that currently says “Download ($0.00)”.

Leo, those icons dont work in the top menu, is that correct?
Yes, I also found that and they don’t appear on a side menu either. I meant to make a note of it.

Great peace! I like it.
I earmark the link to use when I upgrade to the “final” version and overhaul my site. Coming soon, I hope…
Thanks very much! Glad you enjoyed it 😀
October 11, 2013 at 11:54 pm #1743I can also report that large radio button bug on my end.
October 11, 2013 at 7:57 pm #3210You can actually embed meta tags in just about any file. PNG’s can have Meta Tags the issue is that not many platforms and software support it. They are still there though, right in the file.
You can also insert your copyright into a PNG with ExifTool.

Takes some getting used to using ExifTool but I now have a batch file I run on my images. It will remove parts I don’t want in the Meta Tags and adds all the copyright and urls etc. I need. Took me about a day or two to figure it out.

October 11, 2013 at 3:12 pm #1721A new anomaly I just picked up is that SYXtra plugin links are broken on image pages. Someone has pointed it out to me as I was about to remove it temporarily until resolved.
I had a widget with random images appearing below my welcome on the front page and while it loads the thumbs it doesn’t load the image page for the images. This is because the link SYXtra is making use of for example is…
http://stockyimage.com/image/cape-town-by-night-western-cape
and the link only works with a forward slash on the end now.
http://stockyimage.com/image/cape-town-by-night-western-cape/
I would recommend that if you are live with the new theme (like me) that you hide any widget that is breaking the links till Leo can look at it.

Thanks Christine and Jo for your testing:
How can I remove and reinstall the theme via ftp? It’s a pleasure but I can’t help with that. I don’t know anything about WordPress.
Can you not get into your dasbhoard at all? Even using a direct link?
http://flashstockphoto.com/wp-admin/index.php
It might let you get in if it remembers the password or gives you a login to WordPress window.
Leo would be the best one to ask I’m afraid.
