Your site loads fine on my end. I ran a ping on it and it reports very similarly to mine. Both sites load with in reasonable times. It could be your internet connection Ron.

That reminds me – I’m going to need some showcase sites to show symbiostockers the improvements.
Mine is mostly finished layout wise. I just need to do a bit of writing to create a bit of a help for the button and do a blurb thingy about Symbiostock, what it is, etc.

October 15, 2013 at 9:17 pm #4914I’m on the BlueHost basic. Cheapest option whatever it’s called. Sometimes we (South Africa) do experience some latency right down at the bottom end of Africa here but I am not really having problems with BlueHost. Ftp is upload speed is REALLY fast! Page loads is pretty good.

October 15, 2013 at 8:34 pm #4924I don’t have any real bugs. Just cosmetic requests/fixes. I suppose this is a good thing not so?

Thanks for the welcome and the advice
The Pro option might be a good way to go
Any suggestions about the search engine jumpstart? From the little general research I have done so far on website design it seems unnecessary
Thanks again
I don’t know if it is because of BlueHost or SymbioStock or both but two days after I registered my domain I accidentally saw it listed on page two of google search. It’s still there if you search for “Stock Image”.
So chose your domain name wisely. I took me a day of trying names to hit on one that wasn’t registered and the closet thing to “Stock Image”. 😀
I wasn’t live on the SymbioStock network so I think BlueHost submits new domains on auto or is VERY well indexed with Google LOL!
Within a few days of going live on Symbio I’ve already got pages such as bio indexed on Google. I’d look at Leo’s Premium plugins. I think the sitemap one is worth the price it but what do I know? 🙂

October 15, 2013 at 6:09 pm #4906Hi and welcome!
I went with none of the options. I’m on a tight budget and a bad exchange rate. I do my own backups which isn’t too hard I think. I set up a separate email for the whois to reduce spam. I was used to a free privacy on whois. I don’t think it should be a paid service to be honest.
I’ve got 250 images on my site so far and I find the server is quick enough on my end. I just signed up for a year in case I didn’t like the service. I also didn’t find the saving worth the 3 year investment. If after my year in business I am doing ok then I’ll do a 3 year deal 🙂

October 15, 2013 at 12:59 pm #4822Just make sure you play in the Child theme and not the main theme. If you screw up you can reload it or change it back. I’m not a code person by profession but I know enough to warn people to be careful. It’s precise language. It has no “fuzzy logic” like modern operating systems. A colour setting is “color” NOT “colour”. This is very frustrating till you realise you must be precise with things. If you are working with you MUST close those . Even though new browsers are smarter it’s a recipe for trouble.
So be sure to check you set legible background colours and fonts. I should also warn you that it’s easier to read black fonts on white than white on black. Not sure why but usually you can just use a slightly larger font or make it bold.

I’ve just upgraded to 2.8.1 but still not getting images showing 🙁

I’m the official IE9 tester it seems since I am stuck with it currently 🙂
The page loads ok in Chrome but no image. On IE9 however it falls apart and looks like this…
It has a huge broad black top almost an entire page of black with nothing till you scroll down.

October 15, 2013 at 11:41 am #4862The Meta data you will have to change by hand for each file. You can do this on each page of the images or change the Meta tags of the images and then re-upload them all.
A suggestion is that if you want to support either multiple languages or just the one that you do the Meta tags in your images in either multiple languages or in the language you want.
Word of caution, most of the web is run in English, usually American. I would advise using dual descriptions and keywords. Some are almost spelt the same so use the English version in my opinion.

Yep! A whole new bunch of new features to distract you from the bugs!
I notice the “Bio” line at the end of the Category list. Is that like our Author information?
Seems to be using the wrong profile photo.
Did you get a chance to remove “Contact Leo” from the Author Drop down list? I think it should say “Contact David”
On my end it says “Contact Jo” so sounds like it might be a local thing and maybe not an actual bug?

October 15, 2013 at 11:12 am #1783Couple of things after installing, the categories now have sub categories which is great but the sub categories are alphabetically inverted. Z-A going down.
It would be great if the sub categories could be collapsed to shorten scroll time. Not sure how easy this is to implement.
I also found on my end that I cannot change the footer gradient, size of the fonts which are overpowering as headers, or the font. I use SYXtra to change the header font.
Thanks Leo!

Also Symbiostock still doesn’t like ORDERED or UNORDERED lists (eg: bullet points, number lists 1,2,3 etc). They display without the bullets or numbers
I did a work around by going into the code of the page and changing the
- to…
- for numbers
- for lowercase letters.
Just look up on a search engine for other variations you may want.
It would be nice not to have to do this little extra step but it’s not major.
