It works fine on IOS mobile devices. I borrowed a Nexus 7 to test and with version Android 4.4.2 I could see the problem.

When I turned the tablet to horizontal, the keyboard stayed. Not a fix, but a reasonable workaround for the interim

I think I agree, but I must have come into the middle of something ’cause I’m not entirely sure what this is about.

I thing that there are some reasonable models for free speech with a very small number of limits. Communities in general thrive on small concessions in individual freedom for the good of the survival and health/growth/wellbeing of the group.

I think it would be a mistake to say no limits of any kind because
    (a) we have already taken lots of steps to avoid/remove spammers,
    (b) if for whatever reason someone started to libel other people or agencies we’d probably need to put a stop to that (and I mean legal libel, not just someone saying something nasty)
    (c) hate speech is repugnant and
    (d) personal bickering and dust-ups are best taken to e-mail or personal messages

In general I think Tyler (Leaf) does a fine job with a light hand in the Microstock Group; I loved how Rob Sylvan moderated when he was still with iStock (gentle and respectful at all times). I no longer visit the Shutterstock forums because they’re a wasteland of more heat than light – an example IMO of what too little moderation can bring about.

People are free to delete their own posts, but I often think that’s a really bad idea – it’s a kind of hit and run. They stir things up and then remove the provocation leaving latecomers aware that there are some hurt feelings but puzzled about context.

And then there’s the massive power of a simple apology – Ron being the most recent example of that in an MSG post from a week or two ago. It’s huge and it helps people aiming for the “old couple” model get there without nursing grudges.

I’m sure we can figure this out so we get vigorous discussions (what’s that lovely politicians’ phrase? A full and frank exchange of views?) but stay away from personal attacks.

I have moderator privs again. So far I moved some posts from a duplicate thread to merge them but that’s it. I will happily commit that I won’t lock or delete anything without sending PM to explain what’s up (except to spammers who are not entitled to any courtesies).

I had been working on a blog post – on a photography post processing topic for Lightroom 5. So I hurried it up a bit and posted, tweeted…

That’s probably it for today though 🙂

I had two links in my e-mail.

The first – to “go to the Symbiostock Website and re-input your e-mail” and the second that I wrote about trying to comment on below.

It was on the first one that I input my e-mail and submitted and after I did that the box where I typed my e-mail contained a message to check my inbox for a confirmation message (which I never received)

I guess I never came back to update this thread – sorry

My images did start showing up in PicturEngine searches, but they still seem to be very much in “beta” mode. Sometimes I do a search and even when you wait a while, lots of the thumbnails don’t fill in. Things seem very hit or miss in the order of things too

I did a search for ocean park to see some images of mine taken there. The results didn’t seem to give priority to images that had both keywords – lots that had a park but no appearant ocean – so I put quotes around “ocean park” which narrowed it down.

I think we’ve all become spoiled by Google search which does a very reasonable job of figuring out what you’re probably after versus just taking you literally and when other search engines leave you in the weeds struggling for terms to narrow things down, it gets frustrating.

I think the big remaining thing – if PicturEngine ever gets off the ground – is that we need a referral code tacked on to the URL when someone clicks through to our sites from a search on PicturEngine. Right now the URL has nothing so we would never know the search came from there…

So the fatal error is in this line in interpreter.php:

    $results = new SimpleXmlElement( $symbiostock_xml_results );

This is in the function symbiostock_interpret_results() which is called from symbiostock_build_html_results() inside a section that is reached when the following test is true

    if(!isset($results)){

All the code in there is what to do when a search produces no results. It shouldn’t be there when you’re looking at your portfolio. AJT knows a fair bit about this code (I think because he wrote some or all of it) – perhaps PM him and ask him to take a look?

I’d look at file names (in your FTP software) to see if there are any with odd characters (multiple periods, for example). If so, make a directory somewhere else – make another connection window if your FTP software supports drag and drop; I use Fetch which does – and move the offending files there.

Then try again to process what’s left. If it still doesn’t work, move all but 10 of the files out and see. If that works, add back 10 files or so at a time and process. At some point you’ll find a batch that doesn’t work and it’ll help you narrow down the file name or type – are these all JPEGs?

ok, actually by deactivating the pt_BR.po file, it shows normally, now I wonder where in the default.po file it controls or have some code that may mess this when translated. It seems I shouldn’t had translated some text that should remain as a code.

    Any tip?

I’d guess to look for where you’ve translated “image” 🙂

I did try /pt/iimagen/ but that doesn’t work

I’m guessing that one of the places in interpreter.php that does a check for ‘image’ before displaying results is failing because the thing it is checking against is now saying imagen

Yes, thanks. Finally it worked. But there are still many struggles for me 😉

Especially if you’re not all that familiar with WordPress – I wasn’t – the first few days can be a little overwhelming, but it will get much easier once you find your way around.

And then you’ll not only have your site up and running but you’ll be a WordPress expert to boot 🙂

There’s a fair bit of general WordPress help online – I found so many answers by just typing a problem into a Google search and finding many others had run into something similar. And don’t forget to click on the Wiki above for various how-to posts

It’s image singular, not plural. It works:

Click the first item you want to publish, scroll down and shift click the 50th or whatever and it will select all in between as well, so only two clicks needed 🙂

I’m using Dragonfly and the Slate variant but if you look at my site it’s all gray on white. You can see the CSS changes I made for the look I have in this thread:

Regarding the previews, they are instant if things are working OK. Are you using ImageMagick for image processing? In the WP admin panel, go to Process Images and at the top it will say GD or ImageMagick.

See here for setup assistance on server resources and image processing library (more can be found if you click Wiki above):

Glad to hear you’ve heard from Leo and that he’s going to take some time away to regroup.

At the end of this month I’ll have been part of this project for 6 months. I have all sorts of ideas for things to do with my site to make it really my site – not just a clone of an agency site. Something I can be proud of as a way to showcase and sell my work.

And that’s the amazing thing – we can have a network of sites but we can each make our own choices. So it’s like one of those interesting Main Street/High Street shopping areas with masses of unique and interesting places to shop, as opposed to the homogenous big box chain stores where you know what you’re going to get because they’re all very similar. Smiling office team, handshake, jumping goldfish, handshake, handshake…. 🙂

Thanks Leo (and thanks to Dennis too)

I’m very glad you did – and I hope Leo will be do when he reads it.

I may be repeating myself, but it’s inevitable to talk about bugs and missing features versus all the things that work and are not in need of any attention, so it might seem very negative from Leo’s end of things.

That’s unfortunate as there’s a lot of good news in all the progress so far.

Leo is a gifted illustrator who also develops on the side. I worked in software for many years and living in a sea of complaints seems very “natural”- no one talks about the wonderful (marketing people do, but then half of what they say isn’t what the code actually does!). It’s all bugs and problems and wishlists.

The good news about this is that people care about your stuff! Silence is *really* bad news 🙂

There were two identical posts on this topic – please try to avoid doing that – so I merged them into one and deleted the duplicate.
