OK. I’ve updated the watermark and the square site logo so I only use the SS logo with the word Symbiostock, not by itself. This background image shows the watermark fairly clearly (and the site logo below)

I hope that side-steps any associations we didn’t intend – one of the benefits of an international community 🙂
September 11, 2013 at 12:50 am #1821I quite like having different artists’ sections under my own images (versus one lump of “other”). It seems to maintain the connection to individual artists and their work that I think we’re promoting in linking together individual sites.
There were some items that showed up that I didn’t like at all – just because of the difference in styles and approach – so I (for the moment anyway) have decided that excluding those sites from search results is a good approach. That gives me reasonable control of how the results look while still leaving things open to some new site that appears in the future.

Even with the very rounded surfaces and intertwining?
That’s certainly an unfortunate association if you think people would make it, but it wouldn’t have made that connection for me.
Has anyone else in Europe had an issue with this?
September 10, 2013 at 9:02 pm #2296Thanks. I did take a look.
I grabbed a copy of the SS logo from the zip file when I added it to my site logo, so I have what I need to add to my watermark file. I think I have a version I like, but I’ll play a bit more this evening
September 10, 2013 at 8:48 pm #2345Thanks for the suggestions.
I tried the site exclusion option via the marketing tab – where I check the exclude box next to a site whose work I don’t ever want to see in my network results – and that seems to work just fine.
I also tested the keyword filtering on the network tab and that works too (as a test I just entered river to be excluded and then searches for that term show only my work.
I’m not so much fussed about nudes – that was just the first example that came to mind. I’ll watch searches and see, but I think that excluding sites that don’t “feel” right to me might be the best way to prune the network results on promoted keywords.
BTW, I set my default image settings to GREEN and 2nd rank, so every image should be rated.
September 10, 2013 at 8:15 pm #2294I went to have a look at what you’d done. I’ll have to have a think about whether changing mine to include the SS would work visually.
I guess it would help when watermarked images show up in Google searches that buyers can readily identify Symbiostock results just from the watermark…
September 10, 2013 at 7:57 pm #2342Thanks for the explanations.
I guess I’ll see what shows up in the search results over time and then decide. If, for example, someone had beach as a promoted keyword but they did lots of nudes on beaches, I’d prefer not to have that site’s results show up with mine (as, I assume, would whoever did nudes on beaches as my images would look so dull 🙂 ).
I’m so new to this that I may not be thinking about it in useful ways, but I was picking network sites whose “look and feel” was a reasonable fit with what I produce. So I was looking for harmony versus contrasts.
September 10, 2013 at 7:44 pm #2336Thanks for clarifying what “reprocess” does. I assumed it would wipe out all my edits to the IPTC data read from the image file as well as watermark the image anew, so I haven’t used it 🙂
September 10, 2013 at 7:19 pm #2333The batch editor in the premium plugin lets you do this. I’m not sure if there’s another way
September 10, 2013 at 6:54 pm #2292It is a great logo. See what you think of how I’ve incorporated it into my site logo. Home page

and on an image page

I do have it in the PayPal logo too, though much smaller

September 10, 2013 at 3:36 pm #2270What I’d like is an option to show just a link to the forums or excerpts of post topics.
I’m not sure I want to have forum discussions on the network page of my site but I do think showing buyers that there is a forum (as well as the Contact Me option for e-mail) would be nice
September 10, 2013 at 5:57 am #1407I should probably have something separate, but for right now that’s it 🙂
September 10, 2013 at 5:55 am #1925I’ve upgraded to 5.3
Everything seemed fine – I was just editing some draft images I had uploaded and processed earlier.
I’ll post if I have any problems.
September 10, 2013 at 2:55 am #1923OK. I have no problem upgrading to make some new features work. Would it make sense to get us (or some of us) stable on 5.3 on the current version of Symbiostock so it’s clearer when things break that you broke it versus the PHP upgrade? 🙂
