I’m really good at saying things fast – do I win something? 🙂
I’m happy this will get some Leo-love soon. I would like to ask that it be possible to apply licenses by default to new uploads, but if that isn’t possible, can the batch editor (a) do apply to all (whole portfolio) and/or (b) display portfolio in date order so we can easily apply licenses to images just uploaded where Categories, keywords or other attributes really don’t help in selecting the items we need to assign licenses to.
Please and thank you 🙂
October 27, 2013 at 11:58 pm #6335I had replied to your post over on MSG, but thanks again for posting – and the strobist item is priceless. Literally, unfortunately 🙂
October 27, 2013 at 9:15 pm #6345What a diverse collection you have! Nice work 🙂
Couple of observations about the site.
One is that the following text seems to need editing as both options are the same except for small and large (plus I have the same question as ShazamImages about what a 99% license really means – perhaps different words would work better?)
“- Extended Photo (small) and 99% Lifetime Ownership (small) License refer to photograph images with the maximum size under 8 Million pixels (width x height)
– Extended Photo (large) and 99% Lifetime Ownership (large) License refer to photograph images with the maximum size under 8 Million pixels (width x height)”
On the images where you use links to refer the buyer to a different image, you can put different visible text in that’s more readable than a URL, for example:
Cute girl on the swing with blue sky (raster version)
October 26, 2013 at 7:24 pm #6284I think it’s a great idea to “curate” some groups of images by putting together pages. My links are to existing categories, but with the pages you can make even more focused groups of images.
One thing I noticed was that if I click on one of the images – I tried the Hilo Gallery as well as the Prescott Gallery – I got a completely black screen with no images (I did see arrows on left and right sides as if it was going to be a slideshow), a comment box at the bottom and an X on the top left which looked like a way to close the overlay but which didn’t do anything when I clicked it.
What should I have seen when I clicked? I’m using Chrome on a Mac (OSX 10.8.5).
October 26, 2013 at 7:07 pm #5847I made mine smaller too, with a combination of style changes (Dragonfly) and a code change to put the heading inside the box instead of across the top.
For example: http://www.digitalbristles.com/image/sun-rays-on-sand-old-orchard-beach
In symbiostock_author_box.php:
<!---->
<div class="symbiostock_author_info col-md-7 ">
<span class="panel-title" itemprop="" ><a class="ssref" title="Author " href="">
<p >
I posted all the style changes here:
http://www.symbiostock.org/post/4860/#p4860
But the part for the bio box was:
/* author box on image pages */
.bio_box {
padding: 0px;
margin-bottom: 5px;
background-color: #F8F8F8!important;
}
/* make everything in the bio box transparent so the background of choice will show; minimal padding */
.symbiostock_author_info.col-md-7.panel-body, .symbiostock_author_avatar.panel-body.col-md-5, .author-bio.contributor.vcard{
background-color: transparent!important;
padding: 5px;
}
/* Author name a little bigger and bolder */
.author-name{
text-shadow: 2px 2px 8px #E0E0E0;
color: #181818;
font-size: 2em;
}
October 26, 2013 at 6:50 pm #5842I don’t understand which part of the image page you want to edit – what credit links?
October 26, 2013 at 6:39 pm #6301There are no more sub categories on the menu on purpose – I think Leo had said that there was some general move away from them for better mobile device support.
Some others had a single line of images down the left after the upgrade – mine was fine from the start. I don’t recall what the fix was, but have a search to see if you can find the thread (I’ll have a look and edit this post if I find it)
October 26, 2013 at 6:35 pm #6291It isn’t a fix for the problem in your interface not showing the Edit item, but you can easily edit your style.css file without the interface. From your site you can grab a copy of styles.css in the dragonfly directory (using whatever FTP client you work with). Keep a copy of the unedited version and then make your edits in any text editor (I use TextWrangler on the Mac, but anything will do).
On my system, this is the file:
http://www.digitalbristles.com/wp-content/themes/symbiostock-dragonfly/style.css
After you edit the file, copy the new version back up to the site and refresh the page you were editing to see the changes.
It’s slightly less smooth, but works just fine.

Sorry to correct jsnover but you don’t need to worry about symbicoards. Just use the URL of the site you’d like to network with, fill it into the network partners field, enter and save.
No worries – it’s good that it’s easier! So why is the panel in the Symbiostock interface asking me for that card if I only need the URL? If that’s no longer needed, it should go.
October 26, 2013 at 5:16 pm #6281Wouldn’t this snippet from Leo help if you put the whole text widget content in a
?http://www.symbiostock.org/post/4551/#p4551
Or using the columns as I did for the text, you can indicate gaps as well. There were some alignment examples here too.
October 26, 2013 at 7:09 am #6251You should have a look at other Symbiostock sites to see who you would like to network with. You may want to pick sites with images similar to yours (what I did) or perhaps you want to pick those that you feel complement yours.
You can use the global search engine to look at sites and search by topics that interest you
Once you find a site you like, you need to get their symbiocard to network your site with theirs. You can get that from the author page – from any image page on a site, use the “Info” dropdown under the author’s name. From the Author page you can cllick the button at the bottom to “Get xxx’s Symbiocard”. That will download a CSV file to your computer.
You then go to your site’s WP admin interface and the Symbiostock (bee) panel, Network tab. You can specify the file you just downloaded in the Linked Sites section and upload it. The person you link to will be sent e-mail.
When you do searches on your site, in addition to your network partners showing up under your search results, you may see other site’s content showing up if the keyword is one they promote (and you should add your promoted keywords in the Network tab). If for whatever reason you don’t want a particular site’s results showing up in searches from your site, you can exclude them by going to the Marketing panel and checking the box in the Exclude column for that site.
October 26, 2013 at 6:57 am #6247Welcome. I love your images – I’m just a little further north, on Seattle’s Eastside.
One comment about your site is that for older eyes (i.e. mine!) I find the text shadow on the image descriptions makes it very hard to read. As the text is quite small and is light on a dark background, the text ends up looking blurry.
There’s not much to the networking in terms of finding other sites, but I’ll respond in the other thread on that
October 26, 2013 at 4:09 am #6177I don’t know why my site would be different from DonLand’s, but I upgraded to 2.9.4 and WP 3.7, activated the Symbiostock cart plugin and I see all 24 images when I do a search or browse a category of images
October 25, 2013 at 11:18 pm #6161I just went to check and although I have a cart manager plugin, it’s not activated. Did that come with the premium plugin or is that standard Symbiostock?
I am sure I once had it activated as I remember looking to see if there was any information about abandoned carts. I don’t recall deactivating it – perhaps that happened automatically in one of the upgrades?
So if you deactivate your cart manager, does the problem go away?
October 25, 2013 at 7:55 pm #6101Alila took a look at your site – I’m not a suitable network partner for you but I was just interested to see your work and site.
I have two comments. One is that the way I react to the lengthy text you included about buying images on your other site is that I probably shouldn’t buy from your Symbiostock site! I can’t imagine that’s really what you want, so I’d suggest perhaps just including a link saying there are more images available.
I think if a buyer is confused about what to do, it’s possible they’ll just move on, so making things as straightforward and obvious as possible is a good thing. If they’ve seen what they like on your Symbiostock site, there seems no harm in buying it there. I did check the prices on the other site and there’s no difference beyond an additional size being available.
The other comment is about the vector pricing – I find it odd that the buyer can purchase the largest JPEG for the same price as a vector. There is so much more value in a vector file – the ability to blow it up large enough to put on the side of a building, change the colors of selected elements or use individual elements separately – that it seems you’re giving that away for no additional fee.
