Is having your own Symbiostock site dependent on one person ? Well, yes, I suppose it is but that person is the owner of the site.

I cannot understand why we would want to hire staff and what they would do? Sometimes it would be nice to have more developers to create different plug-ins for particular requirements but if I wished to do that I could always go and hire one myself.

If you have real concerns about licences you can employ a solicitor to draw one up for you, otherwise you can create your own as the rest of us have done, there are a few templates floating around that you can base one on. Or did you mean actually sorting out licences using the Pro. plugin?

Symbiostock is stable, free and works. Sale seem to be better for illustrators than photographers but that always seems to be the case even on the agencies, it just means photographers have to try harder.

If you are on the fence then it might not be for you, you need to have a “can do” attitude and realise that your success (or failure) is down to you, no one else. Everyone can do it but not everyone will do it. Although I cannot imagine why not as it gives us the ability to be independent of the agencies if we wish and we all know there are downsides as well as benefits to selling through them. The benefits are that they do the advertising and try and find customers. The downsides – well I think we all know those.

I am finding it interesting, and it looks mostly on the positive side, but puzzling when you get direct opposites such as

I started a site but no longer have one or I abandoned it (for any number of reasons)
I started a site and am still running it

do not add up to the total, even when you take out the numbers of people thinking about it into account.

It sounds as if you have put put prices in the boxes for standard licence instead of putting 0.00 . You have to put the additional price, not the total price.

The total price – this is the value of items in your basket, just go to customer and file management page (basket/checkout) and delete your unwanted items to zero it again

I finally managed to do one collection but it is still not right as it shows five images – the four in the collection and the extra one showing all of them – at least the prices are correct.

The professional/premium plugin does not offer those options*. The developer is currently working on a VAT/registration plug-in for European users to comply with the laws in some EU countries.

You do make some very good points and I have just amended my site a little, still thinking about other things. Not many people land on the home page, most come via Google and go to the image(s) they are interested in, so that is probably where we need to put the main CTA’s.

Edit: Collections do offer the option for discounted sets

I am not ready to abandon it yet – my followers are increasing every day I go in and tweet or retweet and I do get a few visits from Twitter – I am trying to do RT’s at least every other day but we seem to have just a core group of about seven of us doing this on a regular basis .

It did not work for me, my customers also get the random password, not the one they have chosen but I put a note in the email they receive when registering

If not go to
Appearance
Install Plug-ins
and install the SYMBIOSTOCK – Emails and Notifications

Then you can check whether it is installed in the Plug-Ins area

The Professional/Premium upgrade plug-in is available from

and provides for various licensing options, twitter integration, collections, batch editing etc.

Discounts – you can provide across the board discounts for all or some of your images but not, currently, for specific people. If you wished you could offer a discount in the welcome email that goes out automatically and do a PP partial refund or using the cart you can allow downloading of an image for free – say they purchase 4 large images and you will give them a fifth free but they would, I think need to add it to their cart separately after paying for the others.

Commission from network – would be very complicated, would it go to the person whose site they originally landed on, the one before the purchase. I think the networking where we all freely choose to interlink with each other is good.
