I think we need to have clearer ideas and proposals for development so people understand what they’re donating to
April 30, 2014 at 7:41 pm #10845First, Most of current users don’t participate here, and we rarely see a poll that has more than 1/3 of the sites participating, and that’s fine — to keep growing the basic theme has to be free. now that Leo has this forum as a buffer, he doesn’t need to deal directly with any problem, and te admin & moderators have thus far been able to maintain control without a lot of hassles
that said, I’d support a project where developers would offer a premium, paid plugin (linked with Leo’s if possible) while continuing to support the basic theme for free when bugs are found. I don’t think there are enough changes asked for to support a monthly fee, and it would be unfair to rely on the small percentage of sites that would contribute
There are examples of orphaned open source projects that have been unsupported for years and still function — many GALLERY sites never moved on to GALLERY2, and I added a timeline module to my chronos project even though the software was no longer supported
I’m also working on a possible kickstarter project that would use Symbiostock as a base and offer expanded non-stock features.
April 30, 2014 at 7:28 pm #11005on http://www.symbiostock.com scroll down the getting started page to the github link which has the latest version
symbiostock.zip is the free theme — when you install, there are now several other (free) plugins that are required and you’ll be prompted to install those also
April 30, 2014 at 7:21 pm #10828One other approach I was going to try would be an immediate rebate of x% on purchases over $X
April 30, 2014 at 12:01 am #11011there are a number of places where url is stored and used:
–
–
–
–
–
–
–
–
–
–
-.
–
–
–most of these probably don’t matter since they are logos, etc that just need to be accessible
check you symbiocard.xml file to see what your settings are now after you made the changes
April 29, 2014 at 11:54 pm #11008there was an update that required a re-install of the symbiostock.zip file, not an update of the theme – it may have been 2.6.5 – in any case, the latest version is 3.3.4
April 29, 2014 at 9:50 pm #10851It would be helpful to find some agreement on new plugins or directions for Symbiostock
http://cascoly.com/symbio/progress.asp has a list of suggestions — it hasn’t been updated in awhile. some are simple cosmetic changes, others will take more time. if we let people prioritize these (and new suggestions) we can then see what needs to be done — new plugins may be the way for features that not everyone needs; or new features could be added to the PRO plugin; or changes could be made to the theme itself – but this latter would require the most testing to insure that previous features aren’t affected
our Turkey trip starts May 12, so I won’t be able to do a lot until mid June
April 29, 2014 at 9:43 pm #11006there was a problem with the file uploader not working correctly — it may have been related to changes with WP 3.8 –pretty sure that was one of the fixes in 2.6.5; in any case the uploader works fine with the current version

Guys, Leo clearly said he is no longer working on Symbiostock as he is working on other projects, call it what you want, but retirement seems close enough to me.
Obviously there is a bug, or I am this stupid?
Why is it not being fixed? Leo, when do you have time to fix this, please? I am really worried, you are too busy, and that has me concerned.
I am not here to attack anyone, I am just worried about my site, and I have no way of fixing this stuff. I am reliable on others. WHen the next version is released, hopefully bugfree, I will upgrade and never upgrade again.
Thanks,
you’re taking Leo’s comments completely out of context
leo said he was working on other SYMBIOSTOCK projects such as the VAT plugin, and he continues to respond to vital needs
once the problem was isolated Leo quickly responded with a fix and update.
no software is ever bugfree – every change or improvement has the potential to affect everything that was previously working. for an open source project, more responsibility is assumed by users to help with tracking down any problems that arise
meanwhile others have shown you ways to handle the problem – have you tried those alternatives?
April 29, 2014 at 9:30 pm #10830similar experience – I sell maps & classics illustrated comics on ebay and tested various types of coupons – 10-20% off on next purchase, buy one get 1 free, etc and there was minimal response
a simple way to do coupons though would be to modify your paypal thank-you response page. if you don’t want to offer the same coupon to all buyers you could just make the appropriate offer by email after the sale
April 29, 2014 at 3:16 am #11003The co-op path was chosen to bypass some of the international complications
http://cascoly-images.com/pix/symbiostock-installation-service/there is a translation section of the forum which addresses some of the challenges, but what’s needed is a native speaker to help with any translation
April 29, 2014 at 3:07 am #1363there are several alternatives besides starting your own symbiostock site — check

I was afraid this would happen when Leo announced his retirement. There is obviously a serious bug, and I hope it will be fixed today. It cant be that I am running an unsupported piece of software.
Whats the word on this? Is Symbiostock abandoned? Or will it be a supported piece of software? Please be honest about this, so I can make an informed decision about the future of my site.
Thanks.
a software problem can’t be fixed until it can be replicated,
until the latest report (thanks for the testing MojoD!) there was nothing to go on — your site had problems, all the others were working fine
now, if leo can reproduce the problem, he’ll have a way to know if it’s fixed.
April 26, 2014 at 2:06 am #10974a few days early for a little may pole…..
I’ve got multiple sites with 3.3.4 running and all have been getting registrations
April 24, 2014 at 6:48 am #10911I get a number of new registraions every day, but I just ignore them and they can’t leave any spam messages
as far as having logins/passwords across al sites that would require a central database of users and sharing of password info, might cause problems with both owners and users
