I tried to upgrade from 2.6.5. to 2.8.0 today as it looks good on my testing site
Most of categories missing or do not show in menu(s)
wording on the menu bar to “make menu” where I did not plan to have a menu
I think we need detailed instructions on how to change and keep category structure within menu/nav bars !
Widgets we can put back but Menu’s are what seems to be messing most people up ?

With the categories pull down menu I had to manually make mine as I couldn’t find any other way.

October 14, 2013 at 12:42 pm #4745That does not get rid of the wording
I know how to do menus (or did in 2.6.5.) and have them in my testing site although not as many.
It is getting them to show up properly and the various options that is the problem. I am trying to get my live site set up like my testing site – not easy! I have also created an interesting problem on single image pages on my live site that I am trying to work around – see what you think 😀

http://nail-art-at.kerioak.com - Art and Nail ArtOctober 14, 2013 at 12:55 pm #4746On my end I only have two menus. The top most on the left with search/contact me/register and then the main menu just below your header that has Home | All | Animals | People.
They are all working fine and display without issue. The top left menu is a little buggy as the contact highlights the whole width of the page.
What am I looking for here? LOL!
October 14, 2013 at 1:52 pm #4747The top of http://kerioakimaging.com should look the same as http://tulip.kerioak.com
but the categories keep getting truncated, there should be other items in the menu. I wonder if it is because the former is running on php.ini 5.3 and the latter on 5.2 ?Now to try and sort my single image page out so that everything does not stretch across the whole page

No idea what else it has mucked up but looks better

http://nail-art-at.kerioak.com - Art and Nail ArtOctober 14, 2013 at 3:09 pm #4749Ok I just tested your site (not the test site, the real site) on IE9 and Chrome. IE9 really breaks down. I suspect it has to do with your customising. I would slowly rebuild adding in your snippits of code back. I took a screen shot but I don’t see away of attaching it here.

October 14, 2013 at 3:26 pm #4750To be honest, I wish I had never changed. The single image page is Full Width, have tried all sorts and cannot work out why.
What I hoped would take five minutes because I had done lots of preparation has taken all day so I am just going to leave it as it is
It is exceedingly slow and everything I try and change is taking ages, my ISP is throttling me heavily since I started this which might be why it is slow and I am fed up.http://kerioakimaging.com - trying to reopen
http://nail-art-at.kerioak.com - Art and Nail ArtOctober 14, 2013 at 3:30 pm #4751Christine, I’m sorry to hear about this and hope you can get it straightened out, but you have probably saved me from this ordeal so far, so it’s bitter sweet but thanks for sharing.
Jo I think the best way of posting a screen grab would be to upload it to a photo hosting site like Photobucket and get a link from them and paste that into this forum.
October 14, 2013 at 3:33 pm #4752Or upload to your own site and link – that is what I normally do. Keep one folder on my site specifically for linking to forums.
Most of it looks okay now I must admit, but I thought this new one would work with 5.4, not have to revert to 5.2 ?

http://nail-art-at.kerioak.com - Art and Nail ArtOctober 14, 2013 at 3:37 pm #4753It’s very frustrating but I would strongly suggest a break (Chocolate highly recommended) and a clean child theme and rebuild. Somewhere the code is not in alignment. Unless you know what you are doing, the quickest is to rebuild bit at a time until you hit the problems.
This is the reality of customising something that is not constant. It’s one thing to customise the CSS but some of the custom PHP can run into problems if they don’t understand the newer code.
Good news is that the Hawaiian Elves are slowly making it easier to customise bits and bobs in the theme that won’t break the PHP 🙂
A General note for everyone reading:
Something that people who don’t know about how code and web design works is that it is very finicky. No two browsers — even just the same browser but different versions of it — will display the same and the simpler you keep your page, the better it will run and more compatible it will be.Jo
October 14, 2013 at 3:38 pm #4754Thanks! I just emailed it. It’s such a waste of time to have to upload and get links and such. I’ve got tons of unedited images and vectors and… and… Oh bugger it’s dinner already LOL!

Honestly, take if from someone who can do HTML and CSS (although I am so rusty and out of touch now) and the graphics to pull a web page together… going back is just a temporary stay of execution. Rather get over the problems now and use the newer version. Well, unless there is a well known bug with a newer version but those are usually fixed. Just the fact that it is not working with older code is a poor reason not to move forward.
I’d say revert back to the old side and then when you have some time start customising your test site and then move your settings over. This way your proper site stays functional.

October 14, 2013 at 4:10 pm #4756My test site is customised but does not have the same problems – played nicely once I worked out that sysxtra did not work to its full capacity. I cannot revert back as it seems some remnants remain so it still is not as it was originally (I tried). Hopefully the site is fairly functional, just strange.
The menu still is not right, there is no dropdown
This is the IE9 image from Jo
and my single image page – because I have shrunk the page to get it in the toolbar is on the far right
