February 2, 2014 at 7:22 am #9173I updated but I’m not sure if I have an ID. My WP Themes area says I have 3.2.7 but if I look at the Attributes section of my author page it says I’m still at 3.1.9 (what I upgraded from).

For anyone who’s curious what practical value this has, I’ve already started using this sitelist to loop through the sites and get browsershots which will be used as site previews on the main .com site. Whereas I’ll be naming the images via ID, for now I did a test run using AJT’s list.

February 2, 2014 at 9:02 pm #9149Leo, it looked like my test site showed up. It is ID: 000043. Does that really matter? Is that good or bad?
Brings up the question on keeping the ID’s cleaned up. What happens when sites go away?

I’ll be throwing in a few more validations — your simply seeing some basic stuff in action.
A more refined version (easy to implement) is that before it logs to the database it will make sure it finds a symbiocard, or that the site even exists. Also they will not just show up by default, but rather I’ll be validating them before they go active. Much like AJT, we have to make sure the site is ready before its promoted.Generally though I’m happy to have made progress in a few of these network toys. Fun though they are, they will be extremely beneficial in helping things move forward faster.

I have a test site too, and so far it hasn’t shown up anywhere – and I’d prefer that’s how it stay.
Is there some “recommendation” on how to do a test site so that you can test network features but not have the global search engine or any other “real” features or sites see it?
I think the fact that I’ve never let it update the network xml files, even though networking is turned on is why the search engine doesn’t see the images I’ve added.
If you can think of some way to set up a “Live/not live” switch it would be even easier, but even if there’s something simple like hiding a file or two by renaming it, that’d be easy enough to do
February 2, 2014 at 11:01 pm #9152Its a simple matter to put in a “TESTING SITE” flag in. Or even a simple DO NOT INDEX for symbio-hubs. I’ll see if I can work that in.
February 2, 2014 at 11:19 pm #9153I had turned on networking for my test site and added a couple other test sites into the network settings but I did not put symbiostock.info in it.
I may just go ahead and turn off the network portion unless I need to test a particular function related to the network capabilities.
February 20, 2014 at 8:09 pm #9177having a testing flag would be a good idea, rather than having kludges (this will be come even more useful as we move to a more controlled beta testing cycle) — but …
— do we let sites go from live to testing?
–do we remove them from the searches by those who networked to them?
— does the theme check & turn off those links? -
