For many of you http://www.PicturEngine.com needs no introduction. PicturEngine offers an “Advertising Only” option which allows the images on your Symbio-site to be searchable on their database/search engine. It uses info set in your marketing options panel to retrieve 600px previews to create watermarked previews on their end.
I do not profit from this – its just another way for Symbiostock to travel the net. Also I am not directly affiliated with PicturEngine, other than the fact that Justin has seen much potential in Symbiostock and would like to include it in his own endeavors.
Also having spoken at length with them I can tell you his system has been developed for quite some time and is a lot more than what meets the eye.
Other than that, please understand Symbiostock and PicturEngine are two separate entities. My only concern is compatability — otherwise they are a company offering a service, so you can communicate directly with them. I am merely introducing it. In fact, Symbiostock has been about 90% compatible with it for about 6 months now.
I understand signup is free right now, and after october inclusion is paid. Some will benefit from this service, some may find it better not to use it. This is completely a decision you must make based on experience with your own portfolio, and if its worth the investment for you personally, and other factors in your personal experience.
Hope you enjoy it!
September 24, 2013 at 10:26 pm #3160One thing to note – the base version is compatible with PE to a degree. The upgrade gives more control over image management as it relates to PE.
September 24, 2013 at 10:47 pm #3161Thanks for the info.
My issue is that my symbiostock has a better Alexa rank that the picturengine!
That is a credit to your hard work Leo!
September 24, 2013 at 11:11 pm #3162Thanks for making that an option for Symbiostock sites Leo.
I’m not inclined to use this at the moment as they’re (up till now) always “just about to launch” but so far nothing’s happened.
It was almost a year ago that they were offering 90 days free and then they were looking for a pretty substantial fee – $480 – and no real marketing plan that I could see.
Searches appear still to be not live – the about page says they’re searching the big agencies and then the smaller ones and photographers can pay a fee to be included. But they’re not searching anything but Corbis by looking at the results.
If you can encourage whoever’s working on PicturEngine to fill us in on what there is that’s more than meets the eye, perhaps it’d look more appealing?
September 25, 2013 at 10:01 am #3163Which version of Symbiostock is compatible with Picturengine ?

http://nail-art-at.kerioak.com - Art and Nail ArtSeptember 25, 2013 at 2:26 pm #3164a handful of salt is not enough here — PE has been less than open from the start and stopped posting in msg when some of their outright lies were exposed — eg telling buyers they;d get the best prices, and telling sellers they’d get the best prices too! they asked money for a product that wasn’t ready for even beta, and as of a week ago still had nothing that could be tested.
maybe it will work, but right now, as noted in msg it’s just vaporware
September 25, 2013 at 2:39 pm #3165I think if we can get them here to explain then we should do so with an open mind, so far it has all been words, I do not think they have actually taken money from anyone and not given anything in return? We all know that sometimes creating software has its ups and downs 🙂

But seriously, I think contributors should have the opportunity to test the waters for at least 3 months before entering into any financial commitment.
September 25, 2013 at 9:39 pm #3167Yes, developing software can be tricky. Although I’d have liked PE explain their troubles here or at msg I am still open to give them a try. However, I am more reluctant making financial commitments after what (not) happened.
September 26, 2013 at 8:35 pm #3168So whoever wants to test the system – in all fairness it might be good depending on how longs its free – why don’t you email me leo[at]symbiostock.com
We’ll get you set up and you can report your experience here.

September 27, 2013 at 2:59 am #3170just WHAT is there to test? even if sym links PE doesn’t have anything that’s live and testable – they wanted people to pay, and the expiration of what you paid for expired many months ago with absolutely NOTHING produced by PE —
calimed they would host large (> 1 million ) sites for free, but they were charging ridiculous rates for smaller sites, and sym as a whole wouldn’t qualify they
PE has a lot of explaining and demonstration to do before anyone should take them seriously. they totally misrepresented themselves in MSG and i’d strongly urge everyone to hold on to their wallets
September 27, 2013 at 5:36 am #3171Steve, you have made it very clear you do not like picture engine and those of us who wish to can wade through the threads elsewhere. It would be nice to leave that negativity behind until and unless it is proved warranted in the current time and situation, when everyone else can make up their own minds?

http://nail-art-at.kerioak.com - Art and Nail ArtSeptember 27, 2013 at 5:58 am #3172LOL I’ve always wondered what would happen if two moderators got into a disagreement.
Justin told me that this was just to try things out and if people want to bail or find it not worth paying for its perfectly acceptable.
Besides that I’ve tried to stay out of the history of the whole thing. From what I do know however he’s had tons of machines constantly spidering the micros, he has visual image searches / filters created. Thats just the surface stuff. Its a genuine search engine. I understand launching the titanic can be a little more laborious than launching a fleet of advanced fishing boats (ie, symbiostock).
So attempting to be reasonable, I do see that yes he’s had some history of slow production, and everyone can jump in or not. Mostly you just won’t know for sure unless someone can give it a true assessment. And then of course its under the scenerio of “free” so its nice and safe.
Its really the first non-symbio search engine using the system for what it was meant for —

September 27, 2013 at 6:34 am #3173I am sure that Steve and I can agree to differ rather than get into a disagreement 🙂 I like to give people the benefit of the doubt until proven one way or the other.
Is the Titanic the best metaphore though ? 😀
