So I added 1350 images yesterday evening by selecting categories in the batch editor.
I checked PicturEngine this morning and nothing showed up in searches. I logged in to the photographer account and about 60 of my images show up there. I have no idea why only a fraction, and even though their interface has a checkbox for “Searchable” and it is checked, those images are not searchable (I picked a set of keywords to make it easier to see if my images were there).
I’ll check again tomorrow and see if it’s just a delay in things showing up
When I did the full instructions I included how long pictures take to show up – minimum of 48 hours but often longer as it depends when they are “collected” which can be 24 hours as they are done once a day, then they are available for editing and then pushed though to the live search. None of my images from December or this month are showing as far as I can see although the look to be there. Might need to check with Justin again

My images did start showing up in PicturEngine searches, but they still seem to be very much in “beta” mode. Sometimes I do a search and even when you wait a while, lots of the thumbnails don’t fill in. Things seem very hit or miss in the order of things too
I did a search for ocean park to see some images of mine taken there. The results didn’t seem to give priority to images that had both keywords – lots that had a park but no appearant ocean – so I put quotes around “ocean park” which narrowed it down.
I think we’ve all become spoiled by Google search which does a very reasonable job of figuring out what you’re probably after versus just taking you literally and when other search engines leave you in the weeds struggling for terms to narrow things down, it gets frustrating.
I think the big remaining thing – if PicturEngine ever gets off the ground – is that we need a referral code tacked on to the URL when someone clicks through to our sites from a search on PicturEngine. Right now the URL has nothing so we would never know the search came from there…
Jo Ann, just so you can check, I have clicked though from PE on one of your “napping” images then went to a couple of other resting photos to see if you can track them.

http://nail-art-at.kerioak.com - Art and Nail ArtI completed linking to Picturengine and generating 1615 promotional preview files a few days ago. Seems that 1540 images already show up in picturengine searches. So that part went very smooth.
Yet, given the eternal beta track record of picturengine, I am not exactly holding my breath. I just think picturengine is a great idea that might prove to be very helpful for us. So I am still supportive and hope Justin and his team can overcome the technical challenges.
BTW, I think I can track referrals from picturengine with my Wordfence plugin. Maybe I better go and check to make sure, though.

I figured out what to enter to see what analytics had to say and found two referrals from picturengine.com in the list (not sure about the time – is that time at my hosting company?)

I see that you clicked on some images, but those show up as referrals from my own site – I might assume that a search at PicturEngine followed by more clicks from the same IP address were referrals, but I don’t see anything that says you got to a page by clicking on a link that PictureEngine displayed (these are in reverse chronological order, so read from the bottom up 🙂 ):

It is a long winded way of finding the results, I wanted to be able to go in to wordfence and find it there if I get a sale via PE rather than hunting elsewhere so that is a shame

I did a search for cat red bow and then clicked on one. I also did a search for rottweiler and saw pictures of your gorgeous puppy.
In both cases I also clicked on a similar images link once on your site. It’d be nice if you could see that a PicturEngine link led to the on-site click, but I’m guessing that shows up as a local referral.

I haven’t seen any updates (they don’t seem to send out email to those signed up) but I assume they’re not live as there’s been no 30 day notice that they’ll need money to continue advertising only at the site
Since I put my images on PE beginning of February I got not a single referral to my site through them. Pathetic. Good luck trying to get me paying for this “service”…
I was under the impression that there was going to be a large advertising push booked for February but have not seen anything of it yet, I may have been looking in the wrong places ? 😐
