Very minimal test site. If anyone wants to look, please do and tell me how to edit the frist page so it has a gallery on it, not the blog. And maybe how to get rid of the “test page” “add a page” and the rest of the install basics?
I understand HTML I have NO CLUE about WordPress.
Email works too, maybe a nice way to test the email from the site?
Two JPG images, maybe three or four by the time I get do, breaking things this morning. I may try an EPS file.
If the sitename and location isn’t obvious: http://crapstock.com
Thanks for any suggestions to making it plain and simple a stock photo site, nothing else, no artist gallery, brag pages (tear sheets) or anything else. Just a nice simple Free Market Photo Site.
Apparently I don’t want Nextgen-Gallery? “The uploaded file exceeds the upload_max_filesize directive in php.ini.”

OK, so I’ll bite and ask the two obvious questions:
Is that really and truly the name you want on your site?
Does that name really and truly help the marketing and overall reputation of Symbiostock?
November 4, 2013 at 4:34 pm #6836I think it’s funny, actually, but it might be a good idea to test it. Get a second domain name and see what kind of reaction you get from potential clients. Maybe even do a poll here. It’s attention-getting, that’s for sure.
I wish I could help with your main page, but I built mine before the latest version of Symbiostock came out, so I’m not that familiar with the new tools.
November 4, 2013 at 4:40 pm #6837I hope that crapstock is just for a test.
You can find lots of WordPress tutorials if you need to get the hang of how to set up a static home page.
http://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Lessons
http://www.siteground.com/tutorials/wordpress/
You can sign up for the newsletter called WPBeginner here
There are a couple of free sliders you can use see this thread:

I’d suggest you get rid of the menu at the top that’s taking up so much space – see some of the comments in this thread for pointers

November 4, 2013 at 4:45 pm #6838I believe the new version of Symbiostock makes it easy to set up a nice homepage. Go to crapstock.com/wp-admin > Appearance > Home Page and there are easy step-by-step instructions. I may redo my homepage using that.
November 4, 2013 at 5:26 pm #6839Hi Pete, you did it then, I really hoped you would not as I think it is a horrible name – brings to mind the daily clear-ups on the paved areas after dogs and geese. I have mentioned this before though 😀 In spite of this pleased to see you are now joining us 🙂

For me, the association is Crap Hamlet, the nickname some genius applied to Corbis’ short-lived, sad-sack microstock site they named (almost as badly) Snap Village 🙂

Yes, it’s true I have a sense of humor.
No one should link to it. I have a legitimate name for a site being processed, and appropriate content. It’s a test site and it’s been an ongoing joke for years before Symbiostock was every a thought in Leo’s fertile brain. Reputation of Symbiostock, maybe the whole Microstock market is a better target, or the entire Internet. (Creation Date: 28-may-2011) After a nice lady artist who owned the name, let me transfer it to myself.
Meanwhile I have moved forward and installed the Alamy Plugin, which works. Pretty well. I learned that the “RM” needs to be in caps or the file will display as rf instead. No big deal. Just a heads up for anyone else going that direction.
Now about the Red Warning, “Editorial Only”which doesn’t display? What did I do wrong this time.

Oh and thanks for the help, I figured out the front page answer myself.
Do you think camera phone and tablet photos are acceptable? Is some crummy Instagram “artistic”. Unhappy to see everyone is so uptight about a name on a website? I guess some folks are insulted because I’m making fun of myself? Am I allowed to call one of my own photos a Snapshot, or will I anger some more people…

Alamy plugin doesn’t have this function. Use this instead:

I wondered if it was you, Pete. I know you have been threatening to create that website for a long time…i think its great you are finally doing it! 🙂
Too funny!
I think people should remember that SY is not a company brand name (even tho some are pushing for it to become that)…its wordpress theme software. And this is exactly why we should all remain independent sites…i dont want anyone telling me what i can and cant market, and i wont tell anyone else what to market. No one is forced into networking with any site they dont want to…we all have a choice.
The discrimination has already started…it was bound to happen sooner or later. Human nature, i guess.
Thank you for understanding, even after I stepped in front of the speeding bus. :/
November 4, 2013 at 9:59 pm #6844Your mail server says that my IP is blocked, so here is my reply to your questions: 🙂
To use Stock plugin you should uninstall Alamy plugin first (go to plugins page in WP,
choose deactivate, then delete) , then install stock plugin. It is easy
to customize. Just click Edit in plugins page, find “AlamyRM=” in code
and replace it to “alamyrm=” or whatever you wish, maybe something shorter.November 4, 2013 at 10:01 pm #6857@cathyslife stockphotos wrote:

Sure, but Symbiostock is plastered all over the homepage with a big logo, and my site is affiliated with Symbiostock. I better put a notice up on my website that I am not associated with any Symbiostock site, remove all links and blogs about Symbiostock, switch off the network, and go completely independent.
I can do as I please, I guess.

Hmmmm. That was aimed at me, I’m sure.
Well, yes, I do think it’s human nature to want to put your best foot forward and expect that others you’re affiliated with (however loosely) will do the same. Especially after so many of us have spent months of our lives virtually non-stop building websites that we can be proud of. It’s called professionalism, and it’s a good thing in start-up businesses.
For the record, I know Pete has a good sense of humor. I have encouraged him via several PMs to jump into the SYS pond. But laughing at oneself is one thing. Forcing bad taste down other people’s throats is another. Hey, sure, anybody can do as they please. Why should the rest of us care?
What’s next from somebody else with a great sense of humor? Sh*ttystock.com?

Works fine as it is, I’m leaving it alone for now. Got the nice RED notice which is just what people need to see, before they do something illegal.

Show me where to find the logos and I’ll be replacing them. I agree that I should make it less like I’m part of the core network. I’ll start searching and replacing later tonight.
Work in progress and Test Site to learn how SYS and WP work. So far much easier than I expected getting the foundations installed. I’m a little lost with menu options and some of the coding.
