I’ve Modifed – will you please critique

I think it is something that is annoying. You link to your homepage, not anywhere else on your site. So people clicking on your homepage which you are spreading across the world wide web see this. Even if you think its not an issue, it looks really bad. Its a cosmetic detail and you are a photographer. Giving a good first impression is important and now you give the idea that you also might lack eye for detail in your photos. I am not saying this is the case, I just want to share my thoughts on this. Its critique on your site, not on your photos and not you as a person 🙂 I apologise if what I say is offending.

I agree. It’s terribly annoying. I’ve got the same problem, and I don’t know how to get rid of it.

select Basic
for Search/Account Menu Fill

I noticed it last week, but you were in the middle of upgrading so I didnt mention it but now I thought you werent going to fix it so I mentioned it.

Unfortunately I’m not finding that “Search/Account Menu Fill” option in my upgraded setup, revamped Clean Theme. It’s not a big problem for me now. I’ll figure it out later.

Now it’s back to uploading, Yoasting, etc, after a temporary delay for style changes. 🙂

ADDED: Christine sent me a PM to say it’s in the Nav Menus section, and I did find it there. But the alternate option is a solid white panel that slides down my site as one scrolls. I tried it a bit and decided I prefer the text-over-text version to the white-bar-covering-everything version. So… back to where it was. I’ll deal with this later. Thanks anyway, Christine. You’re a dear to want to help!

I like the look, and have never found it obviously girly or feminine…

a minor collateral issue — I clicked to translate to French, just to test how well it did when I translated the French back to English. but once I change to French I can no longer change to ANY language — the ‘translate’ box sometimes flashes by, but never allows a change. must be getting stored in a cookie, since it still goes to French when I leave the site & return. not a problem if you hit the right language the first time, but if you select Urdu by mistake, you can’t go back.

also, just in case anyone wonders about SEO implications — the actual source of the page remains English at all times – it does the translation the fly, so a crawler will never see the other language(s)

That solid bar was why I did not like it, and why I have adapted it a bit. My css editing code is somewhat scrappy but if you want a go at it doing the same as me I can send it to you .

I think it would look better if the mobile header was white but that is proving somewhat difficult, I can get them both white or both coloured, I have though of another way but that can wait until tomorrow.

I looked at yours again, Christine, and yes it is nicer. At least it fits with your color scheme.

When you have a bit of time (and not a minute sooner!!!) I’d love to give your css fix a try. I’m not very experienced with css, but I do understand how it works and have occasionally in the past done some trial-and-error manipulations that ultimately gave me the look I wanted. So, yes, I’ll take you up on your offer. But only when you have time. It’s not urgent for me.

works fine — one thing I hadn’t realized — I never do anything about the ‘cookies’ bar at top – so I didn’t realize there was another menu underneath! you list most of the topics again on the home page, so it’s not a big problem

previously the translator button was in the same space as your logo – so the order I which those show up may change after the initial display
