OK, well I switched recently to 2.8.2 from 2.5.5, and in the process I never got the Child Theme activated. I’ve doing all of my tweaking and fine tuning in the parent theme, the basic SymbioStock theme– but it has all been through the options in the customizer, like picking colors using the color pickers, no changes in the CSS anywhere that I’ve coded.
So…if I’m not going to change the CSS, do I really need to activate the child theme? Have I really messed things up? Do I need to start from square one again with a clean theme install? Or am I OK, but will have a lot of work to do if I update the SymbioStock theme?
Someone knowledgeable please fill me in.
Thanks
Rick
If you fully and unquestionably plan to set it and forget it that is fine.
But when the day comes that you need to customize some CSS, a child theme will be needed. Even if you just have a blank child theme liek this one: https://github.com/orangeman555/symbiostock/blob/master/symbiostock-child.zip?raw=true it will allow you to tweak anything you wish without losing changes upon upgrade.
But a child theme is not required. Its just “safe”
OK, thanks, that puts my mind at ease.
