I’ve encountered a pretty strange problem.
If I click and try to browse an image category or an image keyword, sometimes nothing shows up. And I mean nothing, not even the footer or the widgets that should be on the page.
This is how it should look:
And this is how it looks:
Any ideas of what may cause this problem? It’s pretty weird, sometimes it works but after I upload a new batch of images it seems to be some sort of error. But like I said, it’s not every category or keyword that messes up. So I can’t find any red thread regarding this.
The website url is: http://www.hundgalleriet.se
I’m sorry, but the site is in Swedish ^^Running WordPress 3.8.1
Symbiostock 3.3.3
Childtheme 0.1.0
And with the pro package installed.I really need this fixed because this function is pretty essential for my site =)
Thanks in advance!
March 24, 2014 at 7:41 pm #10532I’m taking a guess here, but try disabling the Symbiostock cart manager plugin and see if the problem goes away.
My reason may seem a bit weird, but…
If you add /image/ to any site name you should see a list of all the images on that side, paginated to 24 per page (default); 48 per page in my case
http://www.digitalbristles.com/image/
When I add that to your site I get nothing even though you have 71 images uploaded (I can see that by checking your information on the author page). One of the prior bugs noted with the cart manager was that all the images are appearing on one page which can lead to out of resources errors on the server. You really won’t lose much by leaving the cart manager disabled if that does solve the problem.
If not, I’ve no clue 🙂
March 24, 2014 at 8:01 pm #10533Thanks for your input, unfortunately it didn’t solve the problem. I also tried to disable all plugins one after one but that didn’t help either.
If I go to http://www.hundgalleriet.se/image/ and then click the “RSS icon” it seems that all the images should be there. Well, at least they are in the feed. It’s just that Symbiostock doesn’t show them… Really random.
March 24, 2014 at 10:59 pm #10534What PHP version is your server running? Again a long shot but we’ve had issues in the past related to that.
March 25, 2014 at 12:16 am #10535I’m using bluehost and the stats for the server are:
PHP: 5.4.26
MySQL: 5.5.36March 25, 2014 at 3:05 am #10536it may just be that some categories don’t have images yet — if I click on group5 I get your images, but it looks like there are none for group1 yet
normally, symbio wouldn’t show a category with no images, but you’re using a menu that forces the display of the category.
also, you should process your images so that the site starts to get picked up — your symbiocard says there are 97 images, but there’s no image-ibfo.xml fikle — you can create it in the symbiostock/networking page, click on the bottom
I’ve added you to the global search at http://symbiostock-search.com so your site will be found
To help you find network partners, you can find other sites by specialty, focus or promoted keywords at
http://cascoly.com/symbio/list.asp?list=72In addition, any site that adds http://cascoly-images.com/pix to their network will receive active links in reports such as http://cascoly.com/symbio/list.asp?list=71
March 25, 2014 at 6:23 am #10537The search has trouble dealing with special characters. My guess is the “ö” in Malmö is throwing it off. You can check your error_log for hints. I remember having seen entries that stemmed from this – more or less known – problem.

This could be the case. But it’s still weird because I have other categories that includes special characters. For example “Pudel, Dvärg”: http://www.hundgalleriet.se/image-type/pudel-dvarg-images/ and that works just fine. Wouldn’t that give me an error as well?
I’ll guess I have to delete all images, keywords and categories and start from scratch and skip the Å, Ä and Ö characters and see if that helps. And when I upload an image that includes on of those characters, Symbiostock creates two new keywords. For example, if I upload an image that has the keyword “Göteborg”, symbiostock creates both “Goteborg” and “Gteborg”. I guess there is no solution to that at the moment but I think that Symbiostock really needs the support of special characters since the european market is quite big =)
edit: Here are the two keywords that is created for “Dvärgpudel” and they both work.
Dvrgpudel: http://www.hundgalleriet.se/search-images/dvrgpudel/
Dvargpudel: http://www.hundgalleriet.se/search-images/dvrgpudel/March 25, 2014 at 9:28 am #10539And I took a quick look in the error_log but I have no idea what I’m looking at since I’m not a coder, haha! But I tried to open a category that I know doesn’t work, and this is the last part of the log that should show that part.

I did a search on that error and there are a number of sites suggesting that this can be produced when handling accented characters improperly
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/8407948/php-parsing-xml-with-accents
I don’t know much about the area, and it may be a simple fix to make. As far as a workaround, I think that would be avoiding accented characters (and I realize that’s not a straightforward option!)
March 25, 2014 at 3:12 pm #10541Thank you so much for all the input!
Just a quick status report. I deleted all the pictures from my site and http://www.hundgalleriet.se/image/ does work now. So something is up with the images. Probably the special characters. I will do some testing now regarding that issue and I’ll keep you updated =)
March 25, 2014 at 5:37 pm #10542Update:
I found the problem!
Like I said earlier, I deleted all pictures and started from scratch. Well, I kept all the keywords and categories. So I started to upload all the pictures once again. One category at the time, and it all worked. With the same keywords and categories. Including special characters.
Except when I got to more than 25 images. 24 works fine, but as soon as the count reaches 25 I get the problem. Tried the trick with disabling the cart manager with no luck. Even tried to delete it completley, no luck there either.
So at least the problem is pin pointed, now I need to find a solution to it!
Is there anyway to change how many images that is shown on each page? To see if that helps some how.
All other ideas and inputs are more than welcome! We’re getting closer!
March 25, 2014 at 6:19 pm #10543It means changing a little bit of code, but here’s how
March 25, 2014 at 7:21 pm #10544Thanks!
I changed the number to 48 and that works great! I have a totalt number of 36 images uploaded at the moment and when I set the number to 35 the problem came back. So the problem occurs as soon as Symbiostock needs to handle more than one page of images.
March 25, 2014 at 8:08 pm #10545That’s an interesting find. Well done!
Hope that makes an eventual bugfix easier.
