re the 4-7 sec to search a site — that’s a LOT of time! –if the search looks at 10 sites before displaying any results, that’s 40-70 sec of delay!
All 10 sites are searched simultaneously. If option “Random Order” is on, results are shown in order they arrive. If this option is off, site waits for results from all network sites (but no longer than 5s), then displays local results, network results and uses ajax to fetch again missing results, if any. You can test it in my site. I have the latest version of theme without any modifications.

ajt – has anything changed recently in the way searches are done? is the search looking at indexed keywords? or at all text in an image record?
I don’t know anything about changes, but I don’t think, that it could be the reason. It was tested above, that after few seconds site has xml files with network results ready to display. But for preparing and displaying results your sites need too much time. Why? …

It’s taking forever to delete the 8,000 files in that directory (I switched to cPanel to see if it’d be faster than via Fetch/FTP)!
a quicker way to ‘delete’ is just rename it (I put an ‘x’ at the start of the folder name), then create a new folder with the name — helps, too if you later want to restore
March 28, 2014 at 10:55 pm #10653I cleared the xml-cache folder – no difference
I also turned off the option ” If no local results found, show images from Global Symbiostock Search Engine “
no difference
the searchtest takes a few sec on my site
is there a way to tell if searches really ARE being done simultaneously on our sites?March 28, 2014 at 11:11 pm #10654OK, all files inside that folder deleted.
Search results:
1. Network disabled
“wood” -> 7s2. Network enabled, only http://ajotte.com added
“river” -> 17s3. Network enabled, only http://www.karensarragaphotography.com added
“animal” -> 27s
(Karen’s site didn’t even get listed with search results but 9 other sites did)4. Network enabled, http://easybuyphotos.com and http://www.flashstockphoto.com added
“tree” -> 19s5 Network enabled, all partners deleted
“fruit” -> 23s6. Network disabled
“sunrise” -> 7sMarch 28, 2014 at 11:53 pm #10655I had a hard time deleting the files so I renamed the folder as cascoly suggested.
I didn’t time things (were you just checking with a stopwatch or is there some timer function somewhere in wordpress?) but even with only 4 sites added back (two that were fast before and two slow) my searches were noticeably slower – even though after the first search there were only 68 files in the new symbiostock_xml_cache directory
I’ve turned the network off again. Even with the network off, searches are faster using symbiostock.info than they are just searching my own site!
I don’t have any caching stuff on my site (but I never have had). I have added a few more images, but I’m still nowhere near the biggest site on the network.

“sunrise” -> 7sAndre, that wasn’t an error. I don’t have any animals on my site so it makes sense that nothing was returned. I have mostly food or objects so the “fruit” search would have shown results.
March 29, 2014 at 3:46 am #10657I just checked to see if I was having a search issue but mine seems to be popping up pretty quick. I tried searches where images would be returned from my site and searches that I knew would not return an image from my site. The search seemed quick either way. Within a couple seconds.

That’s good to hear. This whole issue is quite mysterious.
What WP/Symbio/prof.plugin versions are you using? What is your host? And what PHP version is your site running on?

March 29, 2014 at 6:37 pm #10663This was addressed in the earliest earliest versions of Symbiostock.
It should work like this:
Lets say you have 10 people on your network. 7 of them are sllloowwww.
3 should be initially on the page – the other 7 should dynamically load. You should see a set of loading gif animations ( the rotating dots ) and one by one results pop up. Those results in turn are cached for the next search, showing everything instantaneously.
Let me know if this is NOT happening. I’ll see about getting it fixed ASAP.
March 29, 2014 at 6:50 pm #10664Right now my network’s off, but what I was seeing is that I’d type in search term and there’d be a looong wait before anything showed up, even the results from my own site.
I wouldn’t mind if my results showed fast and other stuff took a bit to load, but the site looks totally unresponsive when you get no results at all for 20 seconds or more
I’m happy to turn the network back on and add back my partners if you want to look at things on my site (I can also give you a login if you need that too)

It is NOT happening on my site. It takes 20 to 30 seconds before first search results appear (including from my own site). It can take a lot longer for the last network search results to show. If it was like that but first results would show within 5s, I guess we’d all be happy.
