Hi there, I’ve recently started using Symbiostock and am running into an issue with duplicate files. I often change and update the metadata on my files and I manage all my work in Lightroom. I have a large number of files (~10,000).
I’m still just uploading a few test images at a time, so I’ve been exporting from Lightroom to a hard drive folder, then uploading via FTP. That works fine on the face of it, but when I change the metadata of a file and upload it again, it simply creates a new copy of the file and thus a duplicate image in the WordPress media library.
How can I update metadata on my own (without being forced to do it in Symbiostock/Wordpress) and avoid creating duplicates in the FTP process?
Hi Lindley,
There is no easy way to re-read metadata upon uploading to a file that already exists as WooCommerce and WordPress have a variety of internal mechanisms that take place once a product is created. Even Symbiostock renames thumbnails for SEO purposes. But most importantly, there is no way for Symbiostock to know the file you are uploading is linked to an existing file unless you follow the instructions on the edit product page to upload an image that will be used to replace the current one. In that capacity, you can do it, but it won’t update metadata unfortunately.
This is a mechanism we might add in the future, but at the current time, all metadata writing and reading is done through Symbiostock, and metadata is imported only during the initial product creation phase.
