I’ve just “purchased” some of my own images to verify that everything works ok. Unfortunately it doesn’t. Everything runs normally, but when I download the image from the cart and open it, I get an error message saying:
“The file “5781-medium.jpg” could not be opened. It may be damaged or use a file format that Preview doesn’t recognize.”
Anyone experienced this?
Thanks.
March 15, 2014 at 12:22 pm #10461I had one customer with this problem when they bought a .png last year, they contacted me and I sent them the same image by email which worked.

I tried to “Update all existing images” under Symbiostock/Author options, but it didn’t help.
I’m on latest version of SYS and WP. No idea what can be wrong 😥
March 15, 2014 at 1:20 pm #10463Update:
This is what happens when I download an image:Bloggee – can’t open file
Small – can’t open file
Medium – can’t open file
Large – download is named “1701-large.jpg.html”
Zip – download is named “1701-zip.zip.html”What can be wrong when even zip file isn’t downloaded correctly?
March 15, 2014 at 3:07 pm #10464I would go in via ftp and check your full sized images

I think it was adding the HTML extension. If you save the file and remove the HTML extension is the file OK? Try searching here for that issue. I don’t recall if there was a solution found.
March 15, 2014 at 3:51 pm #10466I checked the full size uploads on FTP, they are opening fine.
I tried Safari and Chrome browsers on two different Macs, don’t have Windows around at the moment. The problem is still there. When I delete the .html extension, I get the same message again… can’t open the file.
I’ll try to look around for solution…
March 15, 2014 at 3:58 pm #10467I was going to download your free image as a test (I think I called it a Pelican instead of Puffin when I sent you message via contact form) but I could not work out how to download them other than right click so I didn’t.

March 15, 2014 at 7:25 pm #10469This happens with some versions of Mac safari. First I’ve heard about it with other browsers. Alaways macs though. You need to change the extension not delete it. I actually address this as a FAQ on my contact page because it happens fairly frequently. FYI I am a Mac guy and can’t duplicate the problem. It is only certain versions.
March 15, 2014 at 9:37 pm #10470Problem identified!
Guys, I tried few things and figured out that deactivating the Child theme fixes the problem. Using the original Symbiostock theme, anything I download can be opened as it should. After activating the Child theme, downloads can’t be opened.
So, I guess reinstalling the Child theme could help… will do it in the morning and let you know.
March 15, 2014 at 10:09 pm #10471Reinstalling Child Theme solved the problem, thank you all for your help 😉
September 12, 2015 at 11:14 pm #24042I got the same problem!
What is the meaning of Child Theme?
I am using “Pinnacle” as the theme, which is one of its default themes
