I’m wondering why a click on my site (picturebreeze.com) in the table on your page http://cascoly.com/symbio/list.asp?list=65 directs me to a 404 error page: http://cascoly.com/404error.htm . Have I set something up wrong?
October 2, 2013 at 7:52 pm #3383@jan +1 what is FAA? (googled the same)

I wouldn’t be opposed to throwing a couple dollars into some paid Symbio advertising. I’d be interested to see what ideas the community could come up with. ‘Course, I still need to find a couple sites to network with.google adwords are probably eyond us right now — better to concentrate on our own networking

It is beyond us individually (especially my small amateur portfolio) but, as a whole I don’t think it is even close. Some sort of “support your artist” or the like campaign. Get the word out for a month or so …
October 2, 2013 at 8:41 pm #3386I actually think Google Adwords is NOT the way to go because sooner or later you will compete with big bucks corporations and might be forced to pay more than we make. We should optimize our SEO instead and get good listings without payment.
I’m also a little suspicious that once you start paying for good listings, Google might lose interest to list your site very well without payment later on.October 2, 2013 at 8:52 pm #3387What is FAA? Federal Aviation Administration?
I didn’t think about that organization, but who knows, that name may help the other FAA.
My FAA is Fine Art America, and on Google Search they fly pretty high. I don’t know how they do it, but if you google for a specific image, their links come usually up before any stock agency’s links.
October 2, 2013 at 11:08 pm #3388Thanks for confirming the trend, Cathy.
October 2, 2013 at 11:12 pm #3389I am also seeing this trend, but why?

Is there maybe even a chance that Google did something to ban or re-rank Symbiostock structured sites?
I’m going to look into this quickly for you. Its unlikely, but you never know.
October 2, 2013 at 11:40 pm #3391October 2, 2013 at 11:57 pm #3392The timeline of this issue seems to match the timeline of this (very significant) change mentioned below:

If I’m not mistaken, isn’t the whole stock image business reporting a slowdown this last month?
October 3, 2013 at 12:00 am #3393Basically it says it ranks rich content and contextual content over simple keyword occurrences. Google’s always been moving in this direction, but this is the FIRST big change of this nature in 12 years.
To make it simple, google is more of a statistics machine than a matching machine. The web is becoming more social, so its seeing broader contexts instead of details.
Edit:
I just realized thats not simple enough —
A picture and a sentence accompanied by 30 thumbnails on a page will have a weaker impact than say a picture with a paragraph and little else on the page.

should be fine now

my google analytics are flatlined, but my webmaster searches remain the same ….

I’d say just keep doing what you can to keep your content relevant. I’ve seen quite a few ups and downs over the years.
