I’ve seen the graph moving up, but I think that’s just because my site is still getting indexed, so it doesn’t represent any real growth.

Are u adding new images? If google keeps seeing same stuff it might think site is dead
I’ve been on an extended trip since Sept 3, so not uploading as many as in August, when I was home. But I am uploading a few every day (old images for me, but new — and newly renamed for SEO purposes — to my site) when I can get wifi connections.
Once I get all my trip-related material processed, I plan to slip those images into my site slowly over the winter, to avoid that risk you mentioned of “looking dead.” Especially important since I won’t have much new to add until spring.
I am amazed that you would not have anything to add until spring, are you not going to make a trip to the Bosque this winter?
Oh, absolutely! I’ll be down there at least once during the winter, as I usually do. But how many shots of Snow Geese and Sandhill Cranes can one add to a portfolio that already has a good many of ’em?
I’ll also add more shots of the Sangre de Cristo in fall, Santa Fe in snow, etc. But let’s face it, most of my material is birds and critters… most of whom have already taken off for points south or are laying on the fat for their long winter naps.
Plans are to get back to writing during my slow photo season. 🙂
September 28, 2013 at 10:06 am #3339I’m getting more and more convinced that the decrease of visitors numbers and the lower Google ranking probably has someting to do with what I described here: http://www.symbiostock.org/topic/81/tricky-problem-seo-meta-description/ .
The fact that the Excerpt was taken from us, and therefore Yoast couldn’t generate meta descriptons anymore (an basically all image pages don’t have a meta description anymore), must have set me back drastically.

I’m not sure that is the issue. I saw a drastic decrease in traffic from 09/20 to 09/24 and I don’t use meta descriptions from Yoast.
September 28, 2013 at 1:24 pm #3341I had a decrease starting mid september too..
it’s been a bit better last few days..
but I was concerned with sudden fall of traffic this month.. that’s organic traffic I am talking about.. not the traffic we send to each other.. that didn’t change at all..

Well, at least you get traffic from each other. I don’t see any traffic from the network! Ofcourse I still have a small portfolio online, but working on it.
I do find it frustrating that the images I am slowly bringing on my site are selling at agencies. I want that traffic on my site, @#$5fg!

But you do use meta descriptions, don’t you? If you don’t use the Yoast meta generating features than the issue doesn’t affect you at all.

Yes, I did use a meta description, but I made a mistake. I hard-coded the meta description on all of my images (so it was the same text on all of my images). I do use Yoast, but didn’t know that Yoast could add a meta description automatically (based on other data) until today. So I have just added the Yoast automated one today.
I think that the issue with decreased visitors might have to do with this post:

+1
I’d like to know that too, because I find reading the Google WT feedback confusing and frustrating. Does anybody know of an article or blog that could help us make sense of what all that info actually means?
September 28, 2013 at 8:49 pm #3347In Google Analytics (or a few in Goole Webmaster Tools).
Or in the Jetpack Site Stats plugin.
September 28, 2013 at 8:57 pm #3348You will need to setup Google WT to feed Google Analytics.
In Google WT, in the upper right hand corner under your login name you will see a gear, click on that and you will see several options. Click on the Google Analytics Property.
This will take you thru the process of setting Analytics up. I have forgotten the details as I did this about 2 months ago.
Once setup there are lots of data and charts made available to you.
September 28, 2013 at 9:17 pm #3349That would explain why I cannot find it in webmaster tools. I think the only analytics I am really interested are the ones that increase the numbers in my paypal account 🙂

http://nail-art-at.kerioak.com - Art and Nail ArtSeptember 29, 2013 at 8:55 pm #3350Thanks so much for the directions on how to find Google Analytics. Whew, there is a lot to figure out and set up here!
I followed the links and found that my older website (marthamarks.com) already has a GA account, but of course it never has been used because I didn’t know it existed. Hmmm. Maybe I set it up years ago and forgot about it? Guess I should try to use it somehow from now on.
However, the GA setup tells me this:
Site: http://bestnaturestock.com/Linked Property: This site is not linked to any web property in your Google Analytics account.
So now I’m trying to figure out how to add bestnaturestock.com to my GA account (or set a new one up just for that). It doesn’t give me the option of selecting that new site, just my old one.
No clue how to do this. Do I need to delete the older site to have GA on the new one?

It has been a while but I think that once you have a GA account setup then you click on the ADMIN menu at the top right. You will be presented with three columns of options, the second one allows you to link your site with the GA system. I think you can manage the old site from there also, but again it has been several months since I set up my system.
