I just made my first Collection but I am not sure if the method I used is the correct one.
I made my own Preview image but couldn’t find a easy way to assign it. First I placed it in the Media Library hoping I could select it as Preview, that didn’t work.
Later I uploaded it via FTP to place it between all the other images and assigned a “Collection” keyword to it. This way I could select it in the Batch Editor and assign it as “Preview”. But now I have a watermark through the Preview which is not really needed as it is not a sellable image.Am I using the wrong method?

That’s basically the correct way to do it.
However, I have created a new image category “Collections” and then simply added this preview image to this category.
Yes, the preview image will be watermarked, too. You just have to create a “nice” collection preview image design.Feel free to take a look at my collection images: http://picturebreeze.com/stock/photos/image-type/collections-images/
I use picmonkey.com to create a preview image in less than 2 minutes.October 1, 2013 at 6:27 pm #3588I’ve been using a single image from among the collection as the quickest way to set up a collection, then will go back later to edit it.

***** known problem: the collections feature needs to dislay ALL images, not just the first 24…
here’s how I do it:
– upload images
– publish at least 1, others can be private —
– click to create a collection name it ‘XXX’
– batch editor — find your preview image — set pricing and set that image to be the preview
– then select other images from private & add to collection
— add to list of collections for easier display (i created a separate page that lists collections)
http://cascoly-images.com/pix/image-collections-cascoly/October 1, 2013 at 8:21 pm #3589It is clear to me now. As I made a seperate image as a preview I struggled to get this right. Now I place the preview in a “Collection” category and the with same keyword, I do it like this so it can be found in the Batch Editor and to have a category to show my collections.
This is my first collection:

http://nail-art-at.kerioak.com - Art and Nail ArtOctober 1, 2013 at 11:41 pm #3591it’s a bit confusing at first, so just work thru one with just a coupla images – you can always discard it later
but after that, the main time is spent selecting the images to include
October 10, 2013 at 10:50 pm #3592I set cloud to use collections rather than keywords and placed it on the image page side
instead, the collections cloud appears at the bottom and just lists the titles, no images shown, and lets you click to indiv images — but no way for people to order the collection
on image page, image streches across the page, then below is the author page, and below that the ordering info that should be displayed on the side2.7.3 & 1.2.2
October 11, 2013 at 1:49 am #3599Just set up my first collection. That works fine with a bit of work. The catch is to understand the different aspects of symbiostock to get it to work properly. But it works.
Two suggestions, can we exclude the preview image from the portfolio and from the newest images widget? Or dont we want to do that?
October 11, 2013 at 2:47 am #3600Holy wow, Picassa 3 is brilliant for creating collages etc, or preview images, but even high quality collages for selling as single image. Wow.
October 11, 2013 at 9:25 am #3593Why is it I can do most things with Symbiostock but I cannot make head nor tail of categories, if it try and add one to a menu it just says invalid?
I think this is what I tried
I have picked an image in editing and created a category
gone to batch edit and priced it
in batch edit selected other images
did something in batch edit categories – the instructions disappeared when I clicked something and I could not get them back but I think I added 8 images
Created a page called collections so I can add it to the menu
in menu – added that page and then tried to add the new category – and got the invalid message.I was going to create pretty collection pictures once I knew it would work and what I was going to use it for,.
Where have I gone wrong

October 11, 2013 at 9:42 am #3601I didnt create a page I just created a category called collections and then used the link to that category for the menu. And then in the menu menu, just add the collection slugs to the collection category menu. If that makes sense. It looks and works great.
Sorry, dont want to rub it in, I am just supper excited. Let me know if you want me to help you.

Yes – you have access if you wish – it is probably me not being able to work it out but you are more than welcome to play. I think it is on 2.7.3 – only just seen you have released 2.7.4

Categories, of course – for some reason I am having a total block where this is concerned. Still get invalid though.
