author doesnt have admin?

I upgraded a user to author, but when I log in with that id, I get no admin and none of the capabilities author is supposed to have (same for editor)

Not sure what you are asking, but author doesn’t have admin privileges.

understood — but an author has NO privileges I can find —
Author is supposed to be able to:
◾delete_posts
◾delete_published_posts
◾edit_posts
◾edit_published_posts
◾publish_posts
◾read
◾upload_files

without an admin ;ist they cant do any of these
