I just stuck it at the top of the header.php and put the favicon.ico in the same folder (but I have it in the root too, which didn’t seem to work)
If that’s vague content>themes>symbiostock>header.php
Here’s a whole overblown explanation using Photoshop. If you have Irfanview, it does it without downloading or installing anything. http://www.photoshopsupport.com/tutorials/jennifer/favicon.html
Wordpress version which is much more straight forward. http://codex.wordpress.org/Creating_a_Favicon (and the right way to include it on your site)
One and done = Make a 16×16 – 8-bit – browser compatible color – image, save as favicon.ICO 🙂 Some more modern browsers read GIF and PNG files just fine.
Here’s software (free of course, remember who this is)
Personally I make mine with Irfanview which if you hit F12 activates Paint. Many people don’t realize that a simple free open source editor like Irfanview can do so many things.
And just in case someone has never heard of it, I have Irfanview on every computer, quick and easy editing for many simple purposes. It’s not much but it’s very functional. Fast loading for those snapshots to email conversion or a quick message to a friend, but reduced to a friendly WEB size for attaching, like 1000 pixels wide, instead of Humongous from the camera size.
Favicon is a nice touch for any website so the bookmark has your personal logo and it will also appear on the site location bar as well.
Have Fun!
November 6, 2013 at 3:35 pm #7028I always find that finding where to put it is the main problem as it is one thing that never seems to update immediately, I do think they add a little extra something to a site when you can see a logo at the top 🙂

I LOVE your favicon!
I think I felt a little pee come out when I laughed…
January 7, 2014 at 3:22 pm #7030When I put it on top of the header.php I got the white screen of death!
It worked placing it on the bottom of the header.php
Thanks for the hint!
🙂 🙂 🙂
