It works like featured images. Free image should be added to category named “Symbiostock Free Images”, and widget “Free Images” can be added to home page, like other widgets.
Example:
http://ajotte.com/
Image:
http://ajotte.com/image/orange-lime-and-lemon/
Registered users see button “Get File”:Everyone wanting to get image, has to register first.
Is this function worth adding to theme?
It could be used also in symbiostock.info, as collection from all sites, named “free download area” or sth 🙂
I like this idea. I give away a jpg each month to attract buyers, and I’d love a way to force a registration to build my mailing list.
February 18, 2014 at 9:23 am #9730It is available in version 3.3.1. To make it working, you have to toggle themes after updating – activate other theme, then activate Symbiostock again (and child theme in the end, if you use any).
There is a size option in Bee->Settings. Medium is default.February 18, 2014 at 8:57 pm #9731looks like the free images always shows on the generated home page — is there a way to turn it off? or does it just not show up if no free images are defined??

Ooops, they shouldn’t be there 🙂
If someone uses generated page, the way to remove free images from there is installing next version…February 18, 2014 at 11:48 pm #9733Latest version deployed!

I’d like to everybody when mentioning latest version, place the Version#, so we can have one Idea if we have already installed it or need to update.
Leo, also when you save the symbiostock.zip to spread in forum or to download from other place, it would be cool to save the name for download with the version. Example: symbiostock-v321.zipThanks;
February 19, 2014 at 5:28 pm #9735in 3.3.1 new wp install,it shows free & featured even when there are none – this happens with both admin and subscriber users
and the categories don’t include ‘symbiostock featured images’ as a choice — how do I add featured images?
February 19, 2014 at 6:36 pm #9736In 3.3.2 already only featured and latest images are in generated home page, but I am now looking at code responsible for creating featured category (and free too) and there is something wrong in its logic. “Side effect” of this bug is that the featured category is not created, when code is executed first time and creates all other categories, but when other categories already exist, it works 🙂
Try to toggle theme off/on and it should appear.February 20, 2014 at 2:50 am #9737Great ,
i was planning introduce to Free Image feature in my sym site , today when i upgraded to 3.3.2 and saw free image section in bee , got so excited , thanks leo and ajt 🙂 , my idea was to keep small or medium size image in free section , whenever user goes to for this image , they will see better image in related image , well i will start uploading some free images 🙂 , for free image is there any image category or keyword we have to use ?
February 20, 2014 at 7:26 am #9738ok, turning theme on/off generates the featured images category (and the free image category)
nbut still having trouble getting anything processed

Thanks for this post! I have been thinking along this line for a while! I personally think a set of free images can help in two ways.
- 1. Brings people in from search engines because of the free images
- 2. Gets you listed a little better on Google because of the free content
I wanted to try this out for myself in the near future. I’m going to follow this thread till I get time for myself to try it.
