I am having a crash in ‘Impressions’ on my site.
As I am still trying to figure out why, I found that my Yoast sitemap_index.xml is empty. If I test the sitemap in Google Webmaster it is reporting the following:
Network unreachable: Network unreachable
HTTP Error: 500This is the Yoast sitemap: http://www.jbstockimages.com/sitemap_index.xml
Resubmitting the sitemap doesn’t help.I have no idea if this is causing my horrible site views but errors are usual not helping. Anyone?
November 9, 2013 at 12:37 pm #7196I’d try to uninstall and then re-install WP SEO by Yoast. And then check the sitemap again.

Thanks for the tip but I have tried that, I not only deactivated it but also removed it completely and reinstalled.
Did not help.
November 9, 2013 at 12:54 pm #7198I just checked my files in the root folder of my site.
What I find there is symbiostock_image_sitemap.xml, etc but not sitemap_index.xml
Should Yoast SEO place the sitemap_index.xml in the root folder?November 9, 2013 at 12:54 pm #7199Weird. Maybe a write permission issue?
November 9, 2013 at 12:55 pm #7200Yes, it should be in the root.
November 9, 2013 at 12:58 pm #7201Well, it’s not in my root. The write permissions are 755. Owner has rwx, that’s should be ok I think.

Then I think the plugin doesn’t have sufficient rights to create it in the root. Can you switch owner rights from FTP user to PHP user iside your admin panel? Who is your host?

The owner has all rights, that’s me. The Group and Others have RX.
My host is pcextreme, which is great. Inside my admin panel, do you mean the WordPress admin panel?
November 9, 2013 at 1:23 pm #7204No, I meant the hosting admin panel.
Try this and see if it helps.
Put this into your .htaccess file, then run WP SEO again and see if it created the sitemap file.
AddHandler php5-cgi .php

I placed that at the end of the .htaccess file deactivated Yoast and reinstalled but that didn’t help too.
November 9, 2013 at 1:35 pm #7206Sorry, I’m afraid then I can’t help. Maybe contact your hosting company or even Yoast directly and ask for support?
November 9, 2013 at 1:37 pm #7207November 9, 2013 at 1:38 pm #7208Thank’s for your help.
I’ll try to find the error.
November 9, 2013 at 2:34 pm #7209Yoast has been giving me too much headache with it’s sitemaps.
Can anyone suggest me a better sitemap plugin?
Edit:
In the meantime I installed Google XML Sitemaps 3.3 -
