2.7.8! Get it here: https://github.com/orangeman555/symbiostock/blob/metamorphosis/symbiostock.zip?raw=true
(or just update)
It was suggested by JoRodrigues (http://www.symbiostock.org/user/589/) that Symbiostock should have a way to generate front pages.
Newbies especially have *no idea* how to do this, and so most of the network has cheesy looking front pages (sorry).
In this version there is a front page generator that is good for newbies, but easily good enough for the experienced Symbiostockers as well who (like myself) can’t be bothered with the infinite complexities of designing a home page!
Find it in Appearance->Home Page in the admin area.
My site http://www.clipartillustration.com/ is already running it and I’m happy with it.
This is just a bonus feature. I won’t be expanding it very much. Its not meant to be all-things-to-all-people but rather just a “standard” and simple design.
Keep in mind you can easily use this and hijack the CSS with a child theme 😀 — as you can tell everything is really “default” looking but you can change that.
October 13, 2013 at 8:29 am #4546Yeah, no idea here. LOL. Thanks, enrolling now, will report back
October 13, 2013 at 8:49 am #4547Ok, I already have a home page, http://semmickphoto.com/, but I only want to add the 3 call to action fields. If I do that, and leave all the other options blank, will it override everything I created and remove stuff? Or will it just add the 3 call to action fields to the page as is? And is there a way to roll back? Or do I need to copy the page in case something goes wrong?
October 13, 2013 at 8:51 am #4536This is totally an in-stone page. Its meant to be quick-and-easy standard. You can’t borrow stuff or necessarily add anything to it. It serves the function of giving you a very fast and clean front page. The only thing you can change is the content, call-to-actions, slider—etc. Whatever the page caters to.
So if you already have a front page your happy with don’t bother changing it. 🙂
October 13, 2013 at 8:53 am #4548Ok got it, I just duplicated the home page and will work on that to test it out. Duh. 🙂
October 13, 2013 at 8:56 am #4549I guess its not working on drafts, I need to publish a blank page in order to be able to work on it. Ok, here we go.
October 13, 2013 at 9:05 am #4550Ok, I just broke my website. I was editing the newly created page, and hit save. It saved over my home page http://semmickphoto.com and changed the slug on my original home page. I deleted the new home page to get the old home page back and I have an oops.
October 13, 2013 at 9:11 am #4551Ok, I managed to get my page back, but will leave it for what it is. I do wish I could add those call to action boxes to my existing homepage. LOL.
I just noticed the black WP bar is back on top as well covering my top menu bar. I am going to roll back to 2.7.7
October 13, 2013 at 9:13 am #4537NO
Go UP to the new version. I fixed it. The CSS file got truncated when my software crashed. I added it back in. You should be at 2.7.9October 13, 2013 at 9:15 am #4552Ok, where is 2.7.9? so I can enroll it.
October 13, 2013 at 9:18 am #4538It should be an upgrade on your dash. Or just use the above DL link.
October 13, 2013 at 9:19 am #4553I dont see it on the dash, I will download again
October 13, 2013 at 9:22 am #4539Agree, 2.7.9 upgrade not appearing yet
http://kerioakimaging.com - trying to reopen
http://nail-art-at.kerioak.com - Art and Nail ArtOctober 13, 2013 at 9:30 am #4554I just did a manual upgrade, site is still alive. I will fiddle around with the home page generator, but I will leave the home page as is for now. I do like the Call To action fields at the bottom, but I do want to keep the latest images and featured images on the side.
