The Metamorphosis version of Symbiostock ( https://github.com/orangeman555/symbiostock/blob/metamorphosis/symbiostock-child.zip?raw=true ) is able be used with a child theme, however do not activate the child theme accompanying it right away.
Instead rebuild your child theme piece by piece starting with the CSS file. As you see how each element is effected in the new version, you will end up with better looking results.
WARNING: If you’ve done any heavy modifying on template files through the child theme, its suggested you start over on template files, or better yet, do not use them anymore. Metamorphosis has quite a few good options now so you no longer have to micromanage the layout anymore. Also upgrading will be smoothest if you avoid over-writing template files.
DO NOT simply upload Symbiostock metamorphosis and then activate your child theme. Some child themes have so many things built into them its hard to anticipate how it will effect the new base version.
With all things considered though, the base version is quite advanced, very pretty, and a huge step forward. Its worth a gradual and careful transition into it.
