As widely anticipated, with Adobe acquiring Fotolia I was very happily waiting for them to release software integration, which is now a reality:

If you are a Fotolia contributor, now your images will be available for sale within Photoshop, Illustrator, and possibly future software within Adobe’s family.

As well, all royalties have been increased to 33%.

This, as far as I know, is the first sign of real third party competition in the stock image market where a non-agency is truly competing with agencies. Why this is so great for us contributors is that Adobe makes money through contributors through their software AND through stock photos. So if paying out more increases their software sales, they are in a win-win situation. This means all other agencies, from Shutterstock to iStock are going to have to compete to keep contributors happy.

PLUS users – if you are a Fotolia contributor but haven’t uploaded files in a while, use our automatic submission system to send all your files to Adobe.

This is great news for the industry!
