    Hi,
I am trying to create a domain name. My photos are based on the scenery and landscape of the city I reside in. Would it be smart move if I called my website using th city name and adding “images” or “photos” or “pictures” at the end of it? For example, torontoimages.com ?would this be fine?
    Thank you

My advice is that it depends. If you live in a city that has a demand for photos, and you are going to concentrate on photos of the that city, then I would say yes. If you are going to upload all sorts of images then it might not be such a good idea.

If I’m looking for “apples” I’d probably skip http://www.cityphotos.com and search else where. Remember that your photos will be indexed on the net by their names and keywords.

If you are an all around photographer I would brand yourself first and foremost, then you can be known to take photos of your city. Does that make sense?

Anyway, there is no exact science to any of this. These are just my opinions.

I have been deleting your duplicate posts so you only have to look in one place for your answers.

Maybe if you want to call your self Simply you could use something like SimplyStock.com if that has not already gone

I’d say yes, go for it, if the city is large enough to provide enough image demand.

when I faced this question 30 years ago while developing shareware, I decided to go with a name that didn’t depend on shareware itself — cascoly comes from ‘cascades’ and ‘olympics’ – the 2 mtn ranges we see from seattle. it’s been the basis for my software, travel and photography businesses

the actual domain name is less important these days unless you’re doing a lot of print or broadcast advertising where people actually see the name — if most traffic comes thru search engines, many customers will never even notice the domain name

Wow! I’ve often wondered what “Cascoly” meant and where you came up with it. Nice to find out, at long last.

Thanks, Steve, for the interesting insight!

I always thought it was a derivative of Gascole myself.

I just thought it was a last name.

oddly, the only confusion I’ve ever encountered is with Casco Bay, maine, at the other extreme of the country
